I have had a quick look around and not noticed any thread, correct me if I am wrong.

With the olympics in full swing, as wonderful as it is... Its totally wrecked my normal routine...

Rates as expected have doubled or even higher.
Upgrades as expected have vanished.

I live in Staffordshire and work in Westminster. Sunday or monday to friday depending upon the train ticket costs... (again increased).

My point and questions :

1. As anyone managed to still stay at the regular properties and on the still negotiated rates?
2. Anyone had a GM promise to look after them when the games have finished?
3. Anyone found a property in zone1/zone2 that under £130 a night?

I have found an holiday inn for £80+vat inc breakfast for the next few weeks and thank you to the GM who not bumped the rate. but it zone 3 and 35 minutes on the tube each morning.

If I had planned ahead I would not have spent 400,000 point on my holiday 2 months ago and used them as CP's are still available at 35K a night.

Hi,

You can still get 2 for 1 rates at HI Bloomsbury (Coram Street) over the next few weeks for most dates, though not all.

I would think you would be able to do a series of these back to back, though you may have to check out and back in every 2 days.

Had a quick look at average nightly rate over next week or two which was about £107 + VAT
Decent location next to Russell Square tube.

Cheers,

Cybrandian.

There are other threads here and in the UK forum. But yes there are good rates to be found in some places. Other hotels such as the IC are totally closed to the public so no worries about those.

The rates at many of the London hotels has dropped a bit since the games started, some of the totally ridiculous rates are now simply silly (Stratford), others look like they are moving closer to normal rates.

Many thanks , did a 3 for 2 last week at the CP docklands and got £58.61 (best rate ever found at cp docklands) a night followed by a 2 for 1 at HI Brent Cross.
But for this week and next have been trying all sorts of combinations.
Managed to get the CP Kensigton on points tonight and HI Brent Cross for £80+ vat this week.
W/C the 6th is now my challenge..

Got my cheapest price ever at IC Park Lane last week. So Olympics have the right impact for me :-)

rates have dropped as hotels are not anywhere near full
i was in the holiday inn Mayfair at the weekend for two nights
used points (25,000 a night) as standard room was £500 a night.
price since dropped to £200 .
was upgraded to executive room. (plat ambassador)
also visited the Dorchester and four seasons in evenings for a few drinks.
impressed with both hotels and neither seemed that busy.
saw cycling , swimming and equestrian. transport system was top notch.
the only chaotic place was the westfield shopping centre in Stratford which was crazy busy

Exactly the same as me last week - 2 nights on reward same upgrade.

Many thanks, I am trying some of the zone 1 hotels to see if the rates are dropping as I have a flexible book for the next two weeks.

I'm finding better rates and availability than normal, even just booking the day before.

We were told that our corporate rate for one of the hotels I stay in was to double during the Olympics but they seem to have left it alone and not bothered raising it.

A lot of people where I work have booked time off so not to be in London, pretty sure a lot of other employees are working from home.

I am in the City today and it is like a Sunday, totally dead. Even tube stations which were meant to be out of control are dead, although it might be different in the afternoon.

I have to agree with you, its a total surprise, none of the full time employees in, only us contractors. St James Park and Glouster Road stains really quiet, Circle Line empty at 8:45 this morning.
Stayed at CP Kensington last night, now looking around to see any that are quiet for this week with any cancellations etc, have until 4:00 to change booking today.

Many thanks for all the advice.
Just managed to use the regular 2 for 1 offer on the hotel I had already booked and save £96.
Did have 4 nights best flex at £80+VAT - £384 total
Now booked 241 mon.tues/wed.thurs @ £60+ VAT - £144/£144 - £288 total

I will have to fight for the points with the overlapping stay I would imagine.
