American Express Membership Rewards - Transferring MR Points to Another Account?

Apparently, there's no longer an option to transfer MR points to another account, and that's for a U.S. account. There's no active link under "Points Summary", and here's an excerpt from the FAQ:

Can I transfer Membership Rewards points to another person’s account?

No. The points accrued in your account are not transferable to any other person or account. For a complete description of the Membership Rewards program, please see the Terms and Conditions.

Call it in to 1-800 customer service number... there might be a fee for doing it

This language is not new. The USA version of Membership Rewards has never permitted transfers to other Membership Rewards accounts, but customer service is reported to do this on an exception basis. It is possible to transfer to another person's frequent flyer or hotel account. See these threads:
