Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - SQ upgrade using friend's miles

Hi,

I can't find this thread if it exists already.

I have a four sector booking which is upgradeable using miles.

Can my friend upgrade me using his miles? He is willing to upgrade me in two sectors to business class.

Where should it be done? Online ( which account?) or by calling SQ CSR?

Yes he can upgrade you with his miles. Pls get him to call the krisflyer hotline and provide him your PNR and Last name. Upgrade also depends on award availability and the aircraft type.

Follow up question: Krisflyer gives a 15% mileage discount for outright redemption of tickets by Krisflyer members if done via the SQ website. This includes redemption for nominees. Is there a way to do the aforementioned upgrade on an existing ticket online (not an outright full award ticket), and by doing so, benefit from the 15% discount? That's a decent discount... and certainly better than nothing.

Quoting 'the site has an ongoing problem with all my bookings and I can't upgrade the flight online' will get you the following response 'we are going to apply the 15% discount available online to this booking for this time only'. If that does not happen be persistent. IME nominees are for family and relatives not for friends so OP's friend might have some problem nominating him online.

I want to book 2 tickets for my parents next year to come and visit me here in Singapore (ex ZRH or GVA). I was thinking about booking 2 tickets (E class) and then using miles to upgrade them into Business class.

Is this still possible? Can I book tickets for them (the "show the credit card used for purchase at check-in issue comes to mind) and then upgrade them directly from my KF account?

Or easier to have them book on their side and me calling SQ to upgrade?

No problem in you buying their tickets online with your credit card and upgrading them from your KF account. Make sure they give their own * alliance FF numbers for proper credit for the commercial bookings!
