Chase Ultimate Rewards - Chase 5X point with Verizon

Has anyone else had a problem with the UR awarding the 5X points for Verizon? I paid my Verizon bill at the store on their automated CC machine and rounded it off to $300. I then noticed on my UR statement that it was short 1200 points. I wrote Chase a secure message and at first they wrote back and said that they were not wrong with their total and it would show up on the next statement. When it did not show up I wrote back and asked them to look at it again. They again wrote back with some weird accounting of my statement where they took the next payment and said it was the first. So, needless to say I wrote back with an exact accounting of my spend and what the points were supposed to total. They finally wrote back and said they were still right because the Verizon spend was coded as telecommunication equipment but they would give me the 1200 points anyway.
I considered just leaving it at that but I felt I was still right so I wrote back and told them that it was for phone service not equipment. I am just wondering if
1.) could it have been coded wrong because I used the in store CC machine or
2.) was it because I rounded off the bill to an even $300?

I assume it was coded as equipment at the store. I have never had a problem with verizon bills coding correctly. Since most in store purchases are equipment it was probably a merchant coding error.

I even bought equipment, charged it to my account, and paid that bill online and got the 5X.

Yea I guess I will just do the online payment. I was at the store so I decided to pay there. Who would of known?:confused:

TAKING THE BUS OR DRIVING TO TMO STORE, THEN PAY TO PARK and than stay in line with weirdos to pay bill?

My Verizon wireless bill is posting with an expense category "Miscellaneous" for the chase ink card. Is this correct for the wireless bonus?

Got the Ink card last week. Verizon $ is Categoried as Miscellaneous , while Verizonwireless $ is Categoried as Utility. Those who has used it for a while, does Miscellaneous get 5X? Thanks!

I assume you are seeing these categories online, but those are not the categories which Chase uses for bonus calculations. See this thread:
