My wife and I are touring Switzerland in an RV in September, but for one of those nights when we are in Zermatt, we would like to stay in a hotel.

What's a better choice for a Diamond member in Zermatt? The BW Alpen Resort Hotel or the BW Hotel Butterfly.

Both places have good reviews on Tripadvisor, anyone stayed there?

Thanks!

I stayed in the BW Alpen Resort Hotel for 2 nights in June and enjoyed the stay. The hotel staff were friendly and the breakfast had a good selection. Make sure you get a room facing the Matterhorn. If you wake up around 7-8am on a sunny day you can get stunning views of the mountains.

Be aware that you cannot pull your RV (in fact, not even a regular car) up to your hotel in Zermatt. Zermatt is a car-free city. You have to park one train stop away, and take the train to Zermatt itself.

With some work, you should be able to figure that out at bestwestern.com. Do a search with Rewards Points as the "special rate" selection. Do the search for dates in this year (as nothing for next year seems to be loaded yet, as discussed recently in another thread). Then for hotels where it shows not available, try an availability calendar to find the points rate for another night.

Doing this, I find:

BEST WESTERN Alpen Resort Hotel is 36000 points/night.

BEST WESTERN Hotel Butterfly seems to be closing after this week for the winter (no paid rates show after this Saturday), and is not avialble on points this week, so I can't tell what it is. But I seem to recall it's pretty high too.

Given that you can find nice indie hotels in Zermatt for decent prices, and the points prices are high for the two BWs, I don't consider Zermatt a good value redemption location for BW. (In fact, I saved up BW points with the original purpose of using them for Zermatt, then once I found out how high the points requirement were and meanwhile found how affordable some nice indie hotels were, I just went the indie hotel route.)

Thank you very, very much for all this! Can you suggest any of those "nice indie hotels"?

The one I stayed at (for 5 nights) when I visited a few summers ago was Le Petit Hotel:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188098-d260538-Reviews-Le_Petit_Hotel-Zermatt_Valais_Swiss_Alps.html

As many of the reviews note, it's an above average ratio of quality to cost.

On booking.com, for a "random" (but in peak hiking season) date of July 4 next year, it shows a single room for one person at US$86.18 cancellable, and a double or twin room for two people at US$129.27 cancellable; slightly lower rates are available if you want to do non-refundable. All these rates include a great breakfast and free wi-fi (in public areas at least; not necessarily in every room; sorry, I don't remember any more what floor I stayed on and if/how the wi-fi worked in my room). Note: These are US$ estimates based on the current conversion rate from CHF; obviously, the conversion rate may vary by the time you stay.

Hi.. Zermatt is a District of Village section in Switzerland. Alpen Resort Hotel have
spa center, a restaurant, and spacious rooms with cable TV. WI-Fi in the entire building and transport both offered free. The Western Hotel Butterfly have quiet location in the centre of Zermatt. Both are nice but i think u stay in Alpen Resort Hotel.
