Flying BKK-HKG in a few weeks and I have the old A330 with the recliner seats. What are the chances CX does an equipment change? How often does this happen?

CX is famous for its last minute equipment swap on regional flights

Hey there,
In my experience last-minute short-haul equipment change is more often a downgrade (in terms of business class) than the other way round.

Therefore if I really want, really really really want (copyright the spice girls) to avoid regional J, I like to be proactive and book a flight scheduled with a newer cabin. The odds seems a bit higher than a newer cabin just producing itself out of the blue.

Apart from mechanical, my feeling is that CX may schedule a plane with more Y seats, find out they don't need it, so they downgrade, and in the shuffle they could only put a regional bird on the flight.

Also check your booking leading up to the flight. Not too late, maybe 2 weeks or 10 days before departure? Someone else with more experience please chime in.

I did that some time last week (I fly out of BKK on the 28th), found out my 343 got swapped for a regional 330 so I made a change, & also found a connecting flight with cirrus. Both of which may not matter this week due to the havoc at HKG, but on a more average day that's what I'd do.

This can happen both ways.
Equipment change can happen last minute. In my experience, they do change after online checkin, the following are some of my equipment change which happened last minite,
33B->330 :td:
33B->77W ^
772->74A ^ , the extra capacity enabled me to get a confirmed seat, a few hours before the flight.
33A->33L
