Heading to Dublin for 10 days soon and never been there before. Any restaurant, wine bar, shop, sight, must-to-do recommendations for single traveler?

Any restaurant, wine bar, shop, sight, must-to-do recommendations for single traveler? One of my favorite spots is the number 27 Bar at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin along St.Stephens Green. it is elegant yet casual spot and attracts Locals. Nice views and relaxing in late afternoon. There is the famous Horse Shoe Bar as well inside the hotel check in advance for hours. zigzagg900 Sep 3, 12, 7:18 am Stop by The George www.thegeorge.ie Guiness Brewery and Trinity College library to view the Book of Kells. If you have time a day trip to Belfast is quite interesting. PHLbuddy Sep 3, 12, 7:27 am Jameson's tour - stay near the tour guide and when he/she asks for volunteers, step right in front! M60_to_LGA Sep 3, 12, 7:05 pm There are some good, gay-friendly pubs on Camden Street. I quite liked Against the Grain when I was in Dublin in February - they have decent food and serve a vast selection of microbrews and other lesser-known names instead of the usual Guinness, etc. The crowd in the area also tends to be more locals than in Temple Bar, which is basically a giant tourist holding pen. formeraa Sep 6, 12, 10:10 pm If you have time a day trip to Belfast is quite interesting. Agreed! Belfast is fascinating and the train ride is not too long. M60_to_LGA Sep 8, 12, 1:38 pm Agreed! Belfast is fascinating and the train ride is not too long. I'd take the bus. It's about the same travel time as the train, and it tends to be substantially cheaper. They have hourly express departures from Busaras pretty much all day. Also, I'd spend at least a night in Belfast to sample the pubs there. I actually like the nightlife scene in Belfast more than in Dublin - the pubs seem to have more character, fewer flags and leprechauns, etc. zigzagg900 Sep 13, 12, 4:16 pm Hotel Europa in Belfast is centrally located, across the street from the Crown Bar. A hop on hop off bus stop is a block away which takes you to the murals and Titantic dock. seattletravelguy Nov 3, 12, 4:34 pm I'm headed to Dublin in a couple of months. Any gay or gay-friendly bars that are NOT dance clubs? Also, is there a district or neighborhood in Dublin that has a mix of gay-friendly locals, students, and middle-aged professionals? Wondering if I should book a city tour, or just visit everything on my own. I want to check out the James Joyce Museum, National Library, Stephen's Green, Guinness and/or Jameson's Distillery, and maybe Dublin Castle. Never been to Ireland at all. Adam1222 Nov 28, 12, 6:42 am Just back from a few days in Dublin where I ran into some other Flyertalkers. The brief update: Front Lounge - definitely very gay, not "gay friendly" - a packed gay bar, not club Wilde- new big club Dragon- still going strong I wandered the whole city on foot. Guinness was a bit disappointing, crowded and touristy. It's basically a walk through "museum". Jameson's is also shtick, but at least there's a silly film and a tour guide. Book online in advance to skip lines and save 10% at both. The Airlink bus to/from the airport was super easy, 10 euro return. One thing I was shocked on was how hard it was to get dinner on Friday night without a reservation in the Temple Bar/College Green area. seattletravelguy Dec 5, 12, 6:39 pm Just back from a few days in Dublin where I ran into some other Flyertalkers. Do you remember if the Airlink runs early morning? My flight gets in super early. Adam1222 Dec 5, 12, 9:33 pm My flight landed at around 8:30am. if you google dublin airlink, though, the full schedule is up there. seattletravelguy Dec 6, 12, 7:13 pm My flight landed at around 8:30am. if you google dublin airlink, though, the full schedule is up there. Front Lounge was refreshing and a great place to start. Keep an eye out for rugby players! lol We went to The George on Sunday night and that was a hoot too, with shows, music, younger crowd. |
