After my upgrade question for PE I have decided to give boosting my miles ago with Amex I just wanted to be 100% Clear
I Sign up for Amex Plat via quidco and get £60 cash back and if I cancel the card within 3 months I will only be charged £100.
I then need to spend £2k within those 3 months to get the 50k points.
How long does it take to get the points after you have spent the £2k and how long does it take to transfer them to Virgin?
Can I re-apply after X amount of time? of cancelling?
Alternatively the Plat rewards card only gives £20k but no fees and two lounge passes, are these dated? do they expire?
thanks

In reverse order ....
The Plat Rewards card lounge passes are of the Priority Pass variety, so no good for the Virgin lounges.
A few BA forum people have rung Amex and asked when they are treated as a 'new' customer. Answer varies between 3 and 6 months, so go with 6 months.
If you have a wife / partner, remember that you can also refer them for a Plat or Gold Amex and pocket the referral bonus for yourself and your partner (more on that here: http://headforpoints.com/2012/07/06/exploiting-amex-referral-bonuses/ ).
You can also transfer your partners Membership Rewards points to you for a flat fee of £15 and then move them all to your VS account (as outlined here http://headforpoints.com/2012/07/08/little-known-amex-membership-rewards-features/ )
Usually Amex bonus points post instantly when you hit the spend. My wife hit £1,000 on her Starwood Amex recently and the bonus hit alongside the spend that took her over £1,000. However .... some BA FT posters have reported that Amex is delaying bonuses now until the end of the qualifying period ... ie if you have 'spend £2k in 3 month' then the bonus comes after 3 months, even if you do the spend in 3 days. You need to see what happens.
Not sure how long VS transfers take. However, you can speed up the process by 'linking' your VS account with your Membership Rewards account via the Amex Membership Rewards website. This allows Amex to confirm that your VS account number is correct and speeds up transfers when you get around to them.

Assuming you've already set them up as a partner, a 'standard' 1:1 MR->VS transfer is usually instant. If there's any bonus (such as the recent 40%), you often have to wait until the end of the bonus period (or a few weeks at best).

The Preferred Rewards Gold referral T&Cs say 6 months ("All introductory offers are subject to change, can be withdrawn at any time and are not available if your friend currently holds or has held any other Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Cards in the past 6 months") so that seems sensible.

Thanks All, It seems fairly achievable to try to accumulate 240k by April 2014 then.
My wife was not too keen on doing this her self and she doesn't earn 40k
thanks all

Amex Gold has a lower earning threshold, and a Plat can refer a Gold.
