Chicago - Labor Day Weekend Hotel Recommendations

All:

Traveling with friends to Chicago for Labor Day weekend (8/30-9/3). Have been checking out a number of hotels in the River North/Magnificent Mile area mostly and some rates are pretty high, whereas others have more reasonable rates. Both the Conrad and Palmer House seem to be in the more 'reasonable' category, but I've stayed at both previously and the rooms I got at least seemed a touch small. I'm intrigued by the Omni being an all-suite hotel on Michigan Ave. Has anyone stayed there, any thoughts? Since I'll be traveling with some friends, I thought having more space to spread out and the separate living room might be nice for getting together in the evenings before going out. But, I'm also thinking the hotel is likely not as nice as others in the nearby area. If anyone has any thoughts, or other recommendations, would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It's been a few years, but my brother and I have each stayed at the Omni and it's pretty nice. It also has a great location.

At one point Hotwire/Priceline had it in the 4.5 star category. As for comparison with other nearby hotels, I can't help much.

While not on the Mag Mile, The Doubletree Wit is a really wonderful hotel. The suites are stunning, and the regular rooms are very spacious. I've not checked the labor day rates though.

Check rates at the Palomar - just a couple blocks west of Mag Mile on State, and a nice property.

Everyone, thanks so much for all the suggestions! I really like the look of both The Wit and Palomar. How would you decide between those two? For a slight upgrade in price, I'm looking at the Junior Suite at Wit and King Spa Premier (or something like that) at Palomar.

Thanks!

The rooftop bar at the Wit may interest you if you're into that sort of thing. (http://www.roofonthewit.com/)
