US Airways Dividend Miles - Domestic F question

Hello,
I'm debating whether or not to pick a bulkhead seat for 4 domestic F flights (on a variety of 319/320/321 aircraft). Usually I go bulkhead to avoid someone in front of me reclining all the way, but I've never been in US F before so I wanted to ask -- how close would the person's seat get to me if this occurs? Will his/her head essentially be in my lap? :-)

It's not to bad having someone recline in front of you in F but the bulkhead rows have the most incredible foot room if you ask me.

Yes, their head would be in your lap. For me, if it's a longer flight I prefer the bulkhead for the simple reason that I have more room to work and can actually see my computer screen.
I suspect that this is not an issue which arises from being on the tall side of tall, but having never been short and in F I can't really say for sure. :D
Also, this really isn't a problem for me on AA and most DL flights, FWIW.

I, too, prefer row 1 bulkheads in US FC for the same reason - nobody reclining into your space. That said, if I'm on a red-eye or other flight when I know I'll want to sleep, I choose a window in row 2. That gives you a ton of space under the seat in front to stretch out where you can't quite do the same in row 1. I'm 6' so as always, YMMV.

For some reason I always wind up in 2D. It's obviously not as bad as coach, but a 1D recliner definitely takes up some of your space. I agree with geo - if it's a flight I'm going to sleep on, I don't care. Otherwise bulkhead is the way to go!

My major problem with row 1 is that I need to fight to get onto the aircraft early so I can put anything in the overhead bin.
It always seems that no matter how quickly I board, there's always someone in row 2 ahead of me, who puts their stuff right above my seat :(
Especially in winter, I try to avoid the last row of F (either row 3 or 4), as the seats don't really recline all the way when there are coats hanging behind.

Don't bulkheads usually have restricted legroom? At least that's the gripe on Seatguru. I usually pick row 2 or 3, but I may look into bulkheads otherwise if that's not the case.

I know SeatGuru isn't always too accurate, and can be outdated. I think if someone who has been in many seats on all types of US Airways aircraft came up with a Sticky post on reviews of Seats (Like the Guide to the various hubs), that'd definitely be useful to many on here.

I agree. I'm particularly new to US this year so I'd definitely appreciate it.

This is interesting ... I had no idea that there are so many F bulkhead fans ...
I have had most recent experiences with A320s, so this is fresh in my mind. In brief, at > 6', I think that the leg room is tight and so I much prefer row 2 (not sure how much recline is or is not restricted in row 3). Like aztimm, I seem to board with row 2ers who have already taken the overhead space, which is another reason that bulkhead on 320s does not thrill me.
Anyhow, thus happy to know that there are so many of you who prefer the bulkhead seats on these planes.

The issue is consistency. For example, some 320s have cutouts that provide additional legroom, some do not. Some 734s have an excessive amount of legroom in row 1, others have a fair amount. YMMV.

Coming out of BWI, I find myself on 319s and 320s mostly. I think I've been on a 321 once this year.

I'm a short guy - 5'8"-ish, and I find the bulkheads to be cramped. The aisle isn't too bad, because you can stretch into the aisle, but I'm the type that needs to fully stretch his legs a few times an hour.... And that makes 1F a death sentence.
I'm a big fan of the last row of F, particularly 3A on the Embraers. That's the only row I'm really comfortable reclining my seat, because I know it has no impact on the person behind me.

Hey, that's my seat! ;)
Btw -- and even when you lean back like that -- 4A is a great seat too in Y. Not really blocked in by 4C, so you can get out if need be; and not really a bulkhead seat, since you can store stuff under 3A, and still have leg room. Prefer 4A on an E175 to 1F on an A320 ....
