It's good to share, so here's a simple way for you to combine your Airpoints Dollars™ with friends and family to buy Air New Zealand flights, Star Alliance flights and plenty of other great rewards. It's called Shairpoints and it's easy to get going.

An Airpoints member sets up a Shairpoints Account. This person is called the 'Enabler', and they can invite up to four people to join them in the Shairpoints Account each year, starting on the anniversary of the Enabler's date of joining. Up to two of these invited members can live at a different address from the Enabler. The Enabler can also choose which members can spend from the combined Shairpoints Account, and which members can only spend from their own individual Airpoints Dollars balance. When spending from the Shairpoints Account, the oldest Airpoints Dollars are always spent first.

I thought the same...was suppose to be one of their "exclusive" benefits of the card

So basically, G and GE have had their gifting privileges devalued?

we applied the kiwibank gofly card, and canceled after one month, and got to keep the airpoint family feature....

What do you guys think of the name? I think it's a stupid non name and an insult to the English language. How hard is it to just call it Family Pool and you don't need to trademark it.

I agree. "Sharepoints" would've worked just as well, and the association would still be there through rhyme. Seeing the word "hair" within it just looks weird.

With the drop in the amount of hairpoints that you get from flying, pooling will be virtually the only way most people will ever get to buy a flight using airpoints.

Why trademark it? Who else will ever use that name? lol.

I'd imagine sharepoints might be a bit too close to sharepoint for the liking of Microsoft.

Got this from Kiwibank:

Dear Wayoutwest,

Airpoints Family is having a makeover, and as a Go Fly cardholder, we wanted you to be the first to know.

The feedback Air New Zealand has had on Airpoints Family has been great, so they're making it available to all Air New Zealand AirpointsTM members and giving it a new name - from now on Airpoints Family will be called ShairpointsTM.

Nothing will change for you, other than the name. You still access it in exactly the same way, and all your passwords are the same.

Air New Zealand will also be in touch shortly about the change. In the meantime, because you're already an Airpoints Family member you've automatically been entered into the draw to win one of ten prizes of 2,000 Airpoints Dollars. Check out the competition terms and conditions.

And don't forget that with Go Fly
you'll earn Airpoints Dollars on every dollar spent,
you can access Go Fly Thursday,
you can treat yourself when travelling with complimentary Koru Lounge passes for every $15,000 spent.
Yours sincerely

Have asked them what they intend to do now an "exclusive" to Gofly has been lost, but could be quite a wait.
This really makes tsay ANZ card the one to go with now as at least you get points to use with any airline not just NZ

Have yet to receive my email. But, yes, Kiwibank will be furious I would think. It's a bit lame to mention the GoFly Thursday as a major benefit. And the lounge passes are useless for Koru members or those flying Business class.

I, too, will ask questions of Astwick when I receive my email. But I will be looking around at other possibilities.

Email from Kiwibank retrieved from junkmail which my ISP had decided it was. LOL

But one thing it doesn't mention is the 200 airpoints advance. I think that is only available with the GoFly card or am I wrong? If so, it's surprising that Astwick didn't mention it.

I suspect it is a not so subtle dig at the change in CEO from hirsute to bald.

All the platinum cards do the APD200 advance.

The change by Kiwibank really makes the ANZ Platinum card more attractive, better earn rate, lower fees and cheap joining fee for Koru

I hadn't realised that - thanks.

Will certainly investigate ANZ. But weren't they the bank that sent some applicants away with a flea in their ear? Or was it another one?

Yet another benefit not available to Airpoints members in Australia. I am seriously wondering whether Air NZ actually wants its Aussie-resident customers at all (no Smartass card, no Shairpoints, ridiculous Airpoints conversion rates, no SC earning credit cards...).

Good thing the Air NZ Australia Facebook banner isn't still "We're glad you're here, lets be friends", because I might just have had to question their definition of "glad" and "friends".

Yeah I got dumped on by ANZ, but now ah ahh, depends who you know :D

Kiwibank said the following:

Thank you for your feedback, I will pass this on to the appropriate manager.

Told them pointless for a lot of people who have the platinum card.

I take it that SP remain allocated to the respective AP member's personal account?

The answer from the FAQ is somewhat cryptic:

Question: What happens to my Status Points when I join a Shairpoints Account?
Answer: When you join a Shairpoints Account your Status Points may not be used by any other Shairpoints Account member.

Hopefully I won't get yet another card in the mail upon joining this scheme.

And the 2nd party cannot be overseas even if the original family member is in NZ.
