Transferring to a domestic flight means you have no access to paid lounges, hwich are entirely in the Int side of the airport.

Further, flying FD domestically renders you homeless.

You'll need to occupy your time in ways that don't include a lounge.

Fly BKK to CNX on Bangkok Airways. Every passenger gets lounge access and a snack on board the flight and in the lounge, along with seat assignments and a top notch staff....

OP wants to go to CEI and you're suggesting flying to CNX and then having to transfer up to Chiang Rai? No offense but that's patently silly.

Sucking up 3 hours without a lounge is a cake walk when compared to the additional time and coordination necessary to go from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai**. Three hours in BKK or 3+ hours of additional travel? I'd recommend OP stick with FD on this one.

** Not that this is difficult at all, but when compared to slumming in an airport of 3 hours, it's much more work.

Well I have been doing something similar for over a year, just to avoid Air Asia :)

I also avoid them except when no other choices avail themselves. In this case I'd pay more for TG (assuming the times worked out) rather than flying into an airport a 3hr bus ride away.
