While there is an existing discussion on bagels, I think the pre-eminence of H&H deserves its own thread.
H&H was a true New York institution, a business selling a "Jewish food" founded by two Hispanic men and certified kosher. The main store was located near Zabars at 80th and Broadway and shut down in January supposedly because of bad real estate investments.
The real estate industry paper The Real Deal broke the story on the 1,800 sq. ft. lease at 125 Fulton Street (between Nassau and William) and has a follow-up article (http://therealdeal.com/blog/2012/07/24/hh-to-re-open-downtown/). New York Magazine's Grub Street blog also covers here: Is H&H Reopening? Everything (Bagel) Says ‘Yes’ (http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2012/07/is_hh_re-opening_everything_ba.html)
While I was an occasional H&H customer before and will definitely try them again, I think this is the wrong location. Their UWS space was open 24/7 and this area is almost dead at night.
Will you be buying your bagels there?
