Hi,

I had a discussion with Standard Chartered bank regarding Emirates card. I had the card and i have almost used all the miles on garbage ---- on High Street products as it was about to expire and i do not have any future plans to travel on Emirates --atleast for another year due to many factors......

When i called and spoke to one of the executives, he said that i could pay Rs 13500 Annual fee ( i have to pay every year ) and get 27500 miles every year. I went on Standard Chartered website and it states only a one time bonus?

He also said that miles would not expire another 3 years, so if i have a plan after say, 1 year---i could redeem it......!!

Anyone have experience...??? Is these miles sufficient for any round trip...I don't want to pay Rs10k to 15k as fuel surcharges....I have heard that you only need to pay Rs1k - 3k for redemption to Dubai on Emirates???

Does it sound like a good idea or i would be better off swapping the card to a less expensive charge / credit card?

Thanks and Regards

I can tell you with conviction that SCB Emirates offer is one of the good deals around.

To earn the same amount of miles cheaply otherwise, you need to fly from South East Asia (SIN/KUL etc) to LAX/SFO via DXB on a flex ticket in Y (ouch) which will cost you about INR 100-120K.

EK miles are harder to earn unless you are flying premium long haul. They can be of good value if you are able to bag a "Saver" award. I would say go for it.

if there is any confusion regarding the bonus miles then i would suggest you get it in writing....send them an email....
