This is a case where this is travel within France, but the fare rules state that the pax must enter Canada. (i.e. CDG-YUL-YHZ-FSP).
Is a passport needed for this route?
What if there is only a transfer in YUL?

YUL-YHZ is a domestic segment I can't see how you could manage this trip without clearing immigration at YUL and moving to the domestic part of the terminal at YUL. International transit is only between two intl flights not between an intl and a domestic - or am I misreading your question?

What about the second one, where the transit is between the same country?

I remember the one time I flew to YUL, a few years ago, there was a sign directing arriving AF passengers headed to FSP toward a special corridor. Not sure that it bypassed Canadian immigration, though.
