Sofitel has signed a management contract with the Société des Palaces de Cocody (SPDC), the representative of Ivory Coast, formalising Accor’s takeover of the Hotel Ivoire located in Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast.
Accor is already present in the Ivory Coast with its Pullman Hotel in Abidjan. The takeover reinforces the group’s presence in Western Africa and follows the opening of the Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses in Morocco in 2010.
“We are delighted Accor Group and Sofitel have been chosen to manage this emblematic hotel in Ivory Coast,” explained Yann Caillère, General Manager in charge of World operations at Accor.......

Hotel Ivoire is the former InterContinental Ivoire Abidjan at the time Ivory Coast was a rich country (hotel du Golf was the other IC in town). At that time, the hotel was the pride of the country, and the place to meet/to be seen by the local elite.
It is a good news for Accor, as former Sofitel (now Pullman) is dated. It is said that Accor now manages the hotel because of the links berween France and current president of Ivory Coast.
It is a pity that renovation (started before Accor) is pretty modern cheap.
