Hi all,

Just realised that I'm about to make platinum, but it's going to happen mid-trip. I'm flying PER-MEL-LAX and will make platinum after the PER-MEL flight sector. As I will pick up my MEL-LAX boarding card in Perth, it will state that I am still gold. When I get to Melbourne, I would love to make use of the First Lounge.

So I'm wondering how soon the status credits would go through? In time for me to make use of the First Lounge? Or am I stuck waiting for my next trip?

Thanks in advance for advice.

Miles will have to post first. Your status won't change the minute your flight lands at Melbourne.

Domestic would normally go through that day, occasionally within a few hours but unlikely enough time for a transit.

I would call Qantas up, explain the situation and see if they can arrange something with the First Lounge.

I'm sure they'd consider your entry at least. QF cant afford to be pi**ing off its premium international pax. A friendly explaination may work out. Or else call QF FF and ask them to maybe place a note in your booking. They may even call the MEL F lounge in advance and give your name. It may also hinge on which class you are travelling in.

Once the flights are posted to the system and the new status appears on the website, they can swipe your 'old' card and the computer will tell them the new status.

Flying business. Will give Qantas a call over the weekend and see what they say.

Thanks for the advice :)

I fly PER-MEL and return very regularly and I've found that it usually takes between 2 hours and 2 days for the flight to post so your new status might not post in time.

It may pay to do a printout of your QFF "Your Summary" page showing the number of status points you had before the PER-MEL flight and also a copy of your e-ticket (or whatever) showing the class you flew on the PER-MEL leg. That way the QFF F lounge would be able to do the maths and confirm your new Plat status if they so chose.

The other option might be to ring the QFF customer service line and maybe see if they can set something up in advance?
