Southwest Rapid Rewards - Companion gets A16?
Just checked in for OAK -> MDW tomorrow. I'm A+ / CP and my ticket booked with points. My companion has no status -- no WN revenue flights at all in the last 2 years probably. I check her in first and she gets A16, I get A17.
I'm not complaining, but... how'd that happen? A+ benefits extended to companions now?

WN recycles BP numbers for A/A+ (non-BS) if they are deleted due to ticket change, etc. after they've been assigned. So someone got A16 at T-36 (the same time you got A17) and then that person changed/cancelled their flight and you just happened to time the checkin and assignment of the other pass to get A16.
It's happened to me, too. Perhaps one in 75 times.

Happened to me two a few times. Completely randomly, but nice in any case

I call it the serendipitous early boarding of the late check in travel naive.
It does not have to be a late check in or even the travel naive. It just seems to work out that way a lot of times. It is serendipitous.
