MilesBuzz! - Which airlines/routes offer two-person private suites, and how do I book with miles?

I've been collecting and spending miles for a while now, and have been able to experience some great adventures on award tickets.

Gleff often talks about aspirational awards, and I've recently been thinking about what kind of award ticket would be truly memorable for the wife and me.

I've settled on booking us award tickets for a two-person private suite. I don't have any preference on airline or route, but I'm looking for something that would provide us privacy during flight and offers at least a couple hours of flight time. This is my new goal, and I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice you can offer.

Here's what we currently have for miles/points:
Alaska Airlines (AS): 124k miles (her), 111k miles (him)
American Airlines (AA): 151k miles (her), 156k miles (him)
British Airways (BA) / Iberia (IB): 214k avios (household account)
Delta Airlines (DL): 36k miles (her)
Starwood: 82k points (him)
Chase Ultimate Rewards: 51k points (her)
United Airlines: 157k miles (her), 164k miles (him)

I'd be willing to open any necessary new frequent flyer accounts, apply for any credit card, and transfer SPG or Ultimate Rewards points to any program, in order to make this happen.

The suite segment need not be a long-haul flight, and we'd be willing to fly to any location in non-suite seats, as long as the two-person suite composes at least one segment of our journey. So, no need to look only at routes to/from North America...we'd be open to any route, worldwide.

I've read that Singapore Airlines offers suites like I'm looking for, but that they're only bookable by members of Krisflyer. I know other airlines also offer suites (Etihad, for example) but I'm unsure about privacy. It's key that the suite have closed walls and offer ample privacy. I'd love to hear about personal experiences in one or more of these suites, and I'd especially appreciate suggestions with routing or award booking strategy. Thanks.

LOL, the whole time I was reading it, that's all I could think of. With a name like "Trucker" I'd imagine the OP is used to confined spaces :p

This post made my day :)

SQ is the only airline that meets the needs exactly as you describe them. But really, it's all but impossible to book Suites class with them (yes, I know there are exceptions, but generally speaking, impossible). SQ, as far as I'm aware, is the only airline to have suites that can combine to be a double, if you will.

Many others offer suites with companion seats (ottomans), or suites that you can close off the two outside doors. However, those still have at least a 1/2 wall between the seats.

And, just so you're aware, none of the suites can provide 100% assured privacy, as the walls that exist don't go up all that high. Certainly someone tall enough could, should they be so inclined, peek their head over the wall and look in.

Good luck with your endeavor!

PS. If I were you, I'd book two suites on the Emirates A380, which has a huge bathroom and shower on board. ;)

Too bad there's an FA there to guard against more than 1 person in each bathroom :p. Though I'm sure on a longer flight like JFK-DXB, there might be a short window of opportunity

OP just missed a golden opportunity. People who booked a certain SIN-MEL 77W flight in F just got upgraded to Suites when try changed the flight to A380.

Only SQ middle seats' suite would meet the OP's desire.

And OP might want to do some digging on how SQ unloaded a British couple a few years ago due to the couple's conduct in the middle seat suite, on pay tickets inaugural flight no less.

There used to be signs on the Emirates bathroom/shower that said the room was limited to 2 people. So, not sure the FA would actually guard against anything.

Visualizing Trucker with SO in a private room in the air....

Interesting visual.

Too bad that there's no horn.

My suggestion is to book business or first on a long overnight flight to a leisure destination. The FAs on these routes are accustomed to honeymooners, etc and will likely not watch too closely for two people entering a bathroom, particularly on the night portion of a flight. Mrs EssexNYC and I found the former Air Tahiti Nui direct flights from JFK-PPT to have such a crew (and environment).

If you can get a friend/family member to lend you 280,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points within the next few hours, you'll be set. SQ just announced that SQ1/2 (from Dec '12 to Mar '13) will be flying with the A380, but they haven't updated it online yet. So, as a KrisFlyer member, you should be ale to book that flight within that time period in "first" class and then tomorrow - assuming it doesn't happen in the next hour or two - you'll be upgraded to "suites" class. Voila!

My favorite thread in my short FT membership. If this is the kind of group effort I can expect I picked the right place to spend my extraneous hours.

Lord knows what I'll be up to in late February. Then, right around December time, little, Mr. Aythree Eighty (insert my last name here) will be born ;) Hahah - wouldn't that be a great name!?

Wouldn't it be easier - and better - to just book a really nice hotel suite?

No. It can be joined / enjoyed on short-hop domestic regionals at the back of Y as well (but you and your partner have to be really flexible and ready; try to get warmed up in the lounge before boarding)...

That being said, I have found the HC restrooms on some carriers to be way more than adequate enough for this initiation / activity on TPACs in the middle of the night-time (one just has to be really really quiet and discrete).

Good luck, OP. Be creative. ^

True.... and there are also flight "related" options... such as in a cabana in the Cathay Pacific lounges in HKG. Just sayin'.

I think the best option for the lowest points would be to use your ua or other points to get to SYD.

then use Alaskan Air miles to go from SYD-Auckland on Emirates A380.

alaskan JUST became partners with Emirates! :)
