Well I am going to be rude too...

1. You don't leave cash in an unsecured location. As the hotel pointed out that's what the safe deposit boxes are for
2. The hotel has NO way of knowing you aren't just trying to scam them and even you admit you have no idea when this happened. Expecting all three hotels to "remiburse" you does seem wrong IMHO. The fact that only some of the money is gone and you noticed nothing else missing etc... tends to make a hotel think "scam"
3. How did your luggage (and money) get from hotel 1 to hotel 2 and on to three? Could the theft have occured there.

Honestly, the only person to blame is yourself and pointing out that you didn't take appropriate precautions is not rude. It's trying to help you prevent this in the future. You say you "know" you should have done this, but...

And just because you have been lucky in the past does not make this a good practice.

The way this is written made me assume that the post would detail the exiling of your (former Prime Minister) spouse who had $350,000,000 that needed to be deposited outside the country.

Hard to make any sense of your post. You say that money - which you pointed out was not in the safe - was stolen from one of three hotels in which you stayed. You don't know when or from which this happened.

Not sure what you want anyone to do. Perhaps you'll remember to put money in the safe next time.

You don't even know where the money was allegedly stolen let alone prove it so how can Marriott be responsible? OrangeCountyCommuter brings up a good point, how do you know it wasn't stolen or lost in between hotels?
Also, if somone were to steal money from you why only half of it not everything? Doesn't make sense to me.

I'm going to go the opposite route of the above posters, and, instead of being rude and berating you, offer some actual advise...

Before you contact Marriott any further, I would recommend that you take some time to think about the situation and where the money could have been lost of stolen.

If you can narrow it down to what hotel the money was stolen at, you can file a claim at that hotel. While I doubt you will get any monetary compensation, the hotel can do some follow up work and see who accessed your room during your stay. Maybe this is an ongoing occurrence for a particular staff member, and that same staff member already has a note on their account, and that same staff member accessed your room...you get the point.

While Marriott is responsible for providing you a room that is safe and secure, they can't be held accountable if you can't provide complete and accurate details of what happened.

Off topic - it amazes me Singapore does issue $1000 notes. I have not actually got my hands on one.

I think you were wrong to do what you did and you are projecting your anger that you feel towards yourself onto the CS agent.

This has been a very valuable lesson for you and you should count your lucky stars that all 4 notes were not taken.

Further, it is foolish to carry large notes with you when ATMs are easily available almost anywhere and large notes can be easily lost -- as you now know.

Finally, cash is becoming more and more obsolete and the Interbank rate one pays on credit card transactions is a better rate, many credit cards do not carry foreign transaction fees, and many offer perks such as points.

So, my question to you is, why in the world were you taking large cash amounts in a small number of bills anyway?????????????????????????????

The only lesson I got is never to stay in marriott again. I never expect got my money back. But I did expect a sincere apology. But I did not get it from marrriott. It is terrible that you do not feel safe in five star hotel.

Hyatt and SPG have much greater customer service.

And there are some marriott people hide in this forum. It is Ok. This is the last post I had here. Bye, marriott.

Have a nice day!

OP, you're delusional if you think Hyatt or SPG would have 1) been any more secure and 2) handled your complaint any differently. The fact that you think some of the posters here are "Marriott people hiding" only further supports your delusion. It's a shame that so many cry "rude" when the truth is they simply aren't getting their way.

^^ ... based on the info provided ... leading me to believe it's either a scam or you lost the money yourself and trying to blame someone else for it.

Bye, Daniel.

OP has said his piece and most do not agree with him.

As he has no plans to visit a Marriott property again, there is no need to keep this thread open.

Bruce, please lock this thread as it is doubtful that the OP will ever re-visit this forum again if he is true to his word and therefore, keeping this thread alive serves no useful purpose.

1. I don't work for Marriott. And the "justification" of the "if I don't like the response" is shoot the messenger and accuse them of working for the company you want to trash!

2. Yeah, right Hyatt and Starwood would give you the money just because you CLAIM to have had it LOL! At least you are entertaining!

(I know you will be peeking here. Posters like you always do because you want to PROVE you were right and we were all wrong :) )
