My partner and I have 100k RR points between the both of us. We would like to go somewhere international or tropical that is not in the US during Winter. Is this possible with RR points? Please do not say Miami via FLL.

The FAQ explains how to generate Airtran awards.

Airtran goes to Aruba, etc.

i've been thinking about doing the same thing. How is Airtran award availability for the int'l flights?

Also, if you are a Chase Southwest CC holder, you could use the "More Rewards (https://www.southwest.com/rapidrewards/redeem-more-rewards)" option. Not that it is the best value; but, it could get you somewhere warm and international. See this thread for someone else's experience: I booked a RR 2.0, More Rewards Int'l Flight (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/southwest-rapid-rewards/1298182-i-booked-rr-2-0-more-rewards-intl-flight.html)

You might want to try the AirTran forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airtran-airways-rewards-441/)for better answers/search results for that question.

I know you stated this already, but I would highly recommend staying away from this option. Terrible redemption values for anything non-domestic.

In general, I agree; however, there are some choices out there that may make sense for certain folks in particular situations - YMMV. Especially considering that you should earn miles (to offset the cost of RR 2.0 points spent) in the FF program of the carrier on which you fly - it should appear as a paid ticket on that carrier.

First of all, "somewhere international" is almost certain to be "not in the US". :)

Second, beware of asking "is this possible with RR points". All sorts of things are possible with RR points if only you want to use absolutely horrid redemption rates.

(I hate those Citi ads on TV where someone says in surprise "you got that with points?" but there's never any mention of how many points. Duh!)

So do you care how many points it takes???

(If you're used to thinking that 600 points is $10 of value, forget that completely if you're going to try to use the "More Rewards" path to international redemptions! "More Rewards" redemptions is even worse than Business Select redemptions, and how often do you do Business Select redemptions?)

I would not agree here. My wife and I are using this to fly SJC to Kauai, HI. In total costing is 84,000 points. Yes, this is a lot of points - however, I am getting miles on Delta, and SW does not fly anywhere as nice as Kauai. We live on the west coast so using Air Tran does not really helpin going to the Caribbean. (maybe Mexico in the future).

Yes, I could fly R/T from PHX to BNA 4 times it visit the in-laws (using my companion pass for the wife). But who wants to do that. Yes it is warm in Nashville, as is most of the country right now.

You could fly to SAN, and then go to Ensenada, Mexico via car. But it's not that "tropical"..more So. Cal like.

And which of those is non-domestic, the SLC that you're starting out from or Kayai, HI????

Did you miss the news about Hawaii joining the Union? It happened so recently, in 1959.

As high as the redemption values for Hawaii may be, they're trivial compared to the redemption values for overseas flights. Those often go well into 6 digits of Southwest points per person. (While at airlines other than Delta -- IMHO Delta is not a good exmaple of redemption value itself! -- 40k to 60k miles can get you in coach to Europe, for example. And only 100k miles for business class to Europe, while it could take 5x or 10x times that many Southwest points for business class to Europe!!!)
