I just booked a paid (Ithought c class) ticket from HKG-BKK in c/f class. I just wanted a couple of C class tickets, but the outbound is C and the return is F in what the ticket calls "P" class. The ticket has been issued, and was quite a bit cheaper than what is quoted on the big engines, such as Expedia and Orbitz. I mean half the price. I was ticketed the outbound in C, but F on the return. Anybody have experienced this? The tickets were roughly $700 per ticket, which is half of the quotes from the big engines. I booked through Thai's site, so there is no scam issues.

What is "P" class, and is there a sale of some sort that I am not aware of? The travel is at the end of September and the return in early October.

How did you make a mixed class booking on the TG website?

P fare bucket on TG is discounted first class. So you will fly in the F cabin for that sector.

I've seen cheap F on these flights before. I flew biz a few months ago on this route and it was pretty average on TG. Haven't done TG F yet.

It is fine. You get used to it the more you fly TG. It is still better than flying LH or BA or UA J class.

All good, miloteddy, and you can look forward to the delightful Royal First service on board one of TG's short (but flagship) runs. TG First at its best is just an outstanding experience, although YMMV!

Earlier this month, i flew BKK-HKG on award ticket and had a guy doing a turn with same crew/plane leaving back to BKK in First

Yes, I did that route on TG F before. Service is outstanding, though the meal not much better than in C. Wines are more upmarket, definitely, and you get through fast lane immigration in BKK. In my view, the price difference to C is pretty reasonable.

Generally, TG offers much better fares on their website than through other channels - much to the frustration of travel agents. This applies to most routes and service classes.

I have seen this a lot on CX flights between HKG and CGK.

That discounted P fare is probably in response to EK's perpetually discounted F fare on their daily 380. RT First on the EK 380 is in the $700 range.

Yes there is no comparing the TG and EK F experience on the BKK-HKG or HKG-BKK routes .
Puts TG to shame , big frigging time .

I've tried to test book for all sorts of dates and it always comes back at HKD 6508 (USD 834). For which dates are you seeing USD 700?

I actually paid $716 for the trip...out in C and back in F. I did not try to book a mixed ticket, but that is what Thai did. I did not even notice the F leg until I checked the e-mail receipt.

Oh and in answer to Flyercity, I am traveling to BKK on Sept 28 and return to HKG on October 2.

I have had the same experience as some of the others here, i.e. TG does not offer mixed bookings. I think you might have gotten lucky and picked dates with limited availability and the system assigned you this mixed booking at a lower fare.

Enjoy the FC lounge - it is exceptional.

Sorry, I was going from memory from a year ago. That 834 is no doubt the lowest these days.

I booked ow on the EK 380 in F (HKG-BKK) for about $640 for a trip in December. So I would assume $800+ makes sense these days.

What about the F lounge in BKK... It's a pretty short flight to care so much about the seat and IFE...

The F lounge in BKK is the best thing about this F surprise. On a 2.5 hour flight, the IFE will not get used, but I may be at BKK for a few hours before I head to HKG, so getting the F lounge is a good deal. We are doing a golf outing, and some of our group will need to be there for earlier flights. My brother and I are leaving on TG F in the late afternoon. A massage sounds good.

Last year, we did the EK A380 Biz class. It was great, but it arrives really late. That 1st tee time can be tough if you are up until ......

If you pick a flight With no F cabin TG will offer mixed booking.

Also don't understand how you could get $700 tickets for F/C. On TG website, right?

Where do you see such low F fare? I have tried random dates in different months and don't get anything lower than $1050 round-trip for Ek F.

TG website. I just got lucky. The fares were not advertised, and appear to be gone. Perhaps this is a ThaiUSA thing. EK C on the A380 was $580 USD last time I checked.

By the way, ITA software is currently showing HKG-BKK in C, return (Sept. 28-Oct 2):

EK $580

TG $671

So my good deal is actually average except for the F Class bonus.

I booked the C fare, but the website(Thai USA) assigned us F class on the way home for about $70 USD more than C booking both ways. That is for 2 tickets.
