I understand from what I have read that the parking at the Philadelphia Marriott is valet only. I have also read about some exorbitant times to get the car out when leaving. I would like to park my own car when I stay there in the near future. Can someone please tell me where the closest self-park deck is near the hotel?

their website indicates you can also self-park, but costs the same:
Parking
On-site parking, fee: 45.6 USD daily
Valet parking, fee: 45.6 USD daily
Valet parking only at USD 38 per night (USD 45.60 with tax) - oversized at $45.00 per night (USD 54.45 with tax)
Better, park at the CC http://www.paconvention.com/explore-philadelphia/directions-and-parking

With a coupon a fellow FTer and I found a place for $18/24 hours - cheaper if out early but we had a bit of sightseeing to do ;)
Was a bit of a walk but beat the valet price!
And there was no tax charged on the $18 for some reason...

There's a parking garage directly across the street from the entrance where you valet park at the Marriott (or at least was in 2008 when I was there). It's where they direct people when valet parking is full.

I paid around 18$ daily in Center City last time I was in Philly. Safe and clean, there is a large parking garage near the Sheraton Society Hill. Good value! It's a bit of a walk to the Marriott though. There is also a cheap parking structure next to the Sheraton Center City-Logan Square, only 5$ on the weekends and at night and it's a nice little walk to the Marriott.

If you're going to park on the other end of downtown, you might want to investigate the possibility of parking near a suburban light rail station. I don't know whether these places permit overnight parking. Of course, be sure to choose a safe area.
