Today, MSP to PHL about 75% of the way home and I am dead asleep.
A wayyy too chipper FA tries to tell us all about how this flight was specially selected to recieve this wonderful offer, and then went over 4 minutes of sell and post sell and walk through. And for the final, when deplaning stood in the way of all the passangers exiting, and tried to get everyone to just take one and try it!
All I wanted to do was sleep. The FC FA ran a quick pass through with one drink and then the snack basket then disappeared to the galley to read a stolen newspaper.
I fly every week and magically every flight I am on is a "special" flight, specailly selected to recieve this magic offer........

I keep meaning to time their CC spiel vs their safety spiel and ask them again what their purpose on the aircraft is: are they there for our safety or to deliver us great deals?

They make $75.00 extra for each approved application...but it is a good deal, so take two...and put your wife down also...
Good to see the FA excited about something...instead of reading a newspaper..with a Do not disturb sign on their rear.

I don't agree that it's good that an FA is excited about something that has nothing to do with airline safety and serves only to annoy me on a flight.

Last I heard it was $50 so it must have been increased.
I agree with all sentiments. Truly AWFUL. Was just woken up by one on my DCA-PHX flight.

I personally don't do the CC, but I can't fault those that do as many of them really need the money. Several people I know do quite well with it bringing in an extra $1000 a month. I just ask that they read the script as published and make one pass thru the cabin.
Sorry it woke you up. If you were dead asleep how do you know the f/a didn't come back through? And sorry but I think the "stolen newspaper" comment was a little tacky unless they took it out of your hands while you were sleeping.

Flew DCA - LAS last night, departing DCA at 9 PM EDT. An hour before landing in LAS -- so at the equivalent of 1 AM EDT -- they did this spiel, just after I'd managed to fall asleep. I thought it was tacky and insensitive to the passengers on board. If they'd done it an hour into the flight, rather than an hour from the end at such a late hour, I wouldn't have cared.
As it was, it instantly lost US Air the good will they'd gained with me over my last few on time, well staffed east coast flights. I'd gone so far as toying with shifting my mileage collection from UA to US once I requalify for UA for next year. No way in heck I do that now.

The best time to do it is toward the end of the flight, fill out the forms, and give it to the FA, other wise it might get lost in the seat back...
Any good salesman dose the presentation and ask for the close, the first one who opens their mouth owns the product.
If it keeps prices down who cares. $99.00 companion ticked and miles, not bad and another trip for free, Put the Bose headphones on if you are a regular you know it is coming....Newbie it's a good deal..

It's enough to make me book away. I just sat through it to and from SXM, which they probably consider a ripe target audience. First the spiel including something about spending more than $89 for my ticket today and this "Fantastic Offer", then a walk through asking each passenger if they're interested, followed by a return the the PA to answer "frequently asked questions".
Seriously US, I'm not captive to your routes, I won't book more flights if I have to continue to listen to this. I would rather hear a screaming child or a loud cell phone talker.

While I find the announcements incredibly annoying and sometimes a bit misleading.... I have no problem with them making it.
What I do mind, is while sitting in FC, with my eyes closed, and my headphones on.. the FA tapping me on the shoulder to see if I want to apply for a CC. It's happened now on multiple flights with different FAs.
Make your announcement. Walk through the cabin. But don't interrupt people from whatever they may be doing as you walk around. Tacky.

Agree on a decent headset. I have a cheaper version, but it still works nicely. Since I've come to expect this during the last 30-45 min of the flight, I just listen to my music, watch my movie, whatever.
Unless I'm asleep with my seatbelt undone or the seat back and there's turbulance or we're getting ready to land, there is no reason for the FA to tap me on the shoulder. I would definitely write in, with details as to the flight, where I was seated, and a description of the FA.
If this really bothers you, or the way the FA does it, write in to CS. Yes, there are some people at US who browse FT, but if it is that irksome, a formal complaint is the way to go.

So the FA's have the option of doing the spiel or not? I always presumed that it was policy to do the spiel. I guess that would explain why we get it on most flights, but not all flights.

Absolutely - it's not part of their official duties. So there are some that go overboard just as there are some that don't do it (although another FA on the crew may).
On the newspaper comment, I'd give you 9 to 1 odds that when you see a pilot or FA with a current newspaper it was either picked up on the plane or handed out by the hotel. In 27+ years I don't recall ever seeing a pilot buy a newspaper...the standard joke is that copper wire was invented when 2 pilots saw a penny on the floor and tried to pick it up at the same time...

You know, I am really tired of seeing that argument everywhere. I am tired of having advertising shoved down my throat left right and center in the USA. You know, we don't even have tv commercials here if we pay for sat/cable TV? I paid for my ticket, I don't need a CC offer, I don't need ads on the IFE, etc. if you have to raise ticket prices to stop it, then PLEASE do so.

Advertising is here to stay and I personally do not mind the credit card offer thing. Every airline has it. It is a good deal for people who use them, and as long as I am not given a hard sell, I do not mind.

I guess you, me and the OP disagree on the definition of "hard sell" - no one is saying get rid of the credit cards (I use them as well) What I am saying is don't take a captive audience and force things down their throat.
Advertising is here to stay, but the USA takes it to a grotesque extreme. This is one of many examples of that. So please, raise ticket prices a few dollars and lower the number of sales pitches. Especially those which we have no choice to listen to.

Most people would rather sit through a 5 minute sales pitch than spend an extra $5. This is the truth for everything in the US. Travel, TV, Movies, Magazines, or any place else you'll find ads. People don't want to cover the cost of advertising so companies need the ads to make enough money. Most of America is all about getting the bare minimum for as cheap as possible.

I can't express this enough. The ONLY way to stop the aggressive spiels is to email the company with the information that includes the flight number, date, and destination. If there is other information that helps, provide that, but leave out emotion and attacks.
I for one hate the aggressive f/a's and feel you all, but the cc spiel is NOT going to die, but I DO know those that have been disciplined for breaking the rules/

Funny, when they were charging for drinks, I asked the FA if during the last 6 months they had more training on safety or how to charge people? Her answer was none on safety and lots on charging - esp the new cc machines.
Its too bad that in previous era's there was more of a focus on safety. I am sure they are reasonably trained on safety, but things like the spiel makes one forget the primary reason they are supposed to be there.
Much like the security line jumping by crewing - it gets away from the primary mission of customers first and makes the cattle car delivery system more visible.

FYI, The so called "crew jumping" hasn't a damn thing to do with customers first. It is what the individual airport's security ask crews to do when they are too cheap to provide a crew line. Want your flight late?? FINE!! I'll wait in line! Don't let me hear you flapping your fat jaws complaining when your flight is late or when you miss your connection because the crew wasn't there on time!

Most airports request crew and employees to move to the front of the line. Many airports even have signs that say let crew advance.

So let me explain why we get airports at the times we do so maybe you will understand.
When we check in for our scheduled flights our report time is anywhere from 30 min to 2 hrs prior. Thats when our duty time starts. Now as most people know our duty times cannot exceed 16hrs for domestic and whatever the special rules are for international. We cannot be at our plane more than that time or risk not having enough duty time for flights to go.
In out stations many times we have reduced rest overnights due to scheduling reasons or other limitations we arrive to our planes at the last minute to keep us legal.
You may not like it as a passenger but I bet you hate a cancellation or delay due to crew even more.
Wow. This behavior is very inappropriate. I certainly hope I am never on a flight that has crew with this sort of attitude.
:rolleyes:This kind of behavior.... Puhhhlease give me a break. flight62 comments are not out of line. So you beleive that "Don't let me hear you flapping your fat jaws complaining" is the appropriate way for an airline employee to speak to a customer? At any time? Mental note to not fly on "Republic Airways" if that's the way you operate.
Really amazing that people speak like this to customers, let alone support that sort of behavior in others. Wow.

 There is a big difference in FF flapping their fat jaws on here .....ing and moaning about how the crews inconvenienced them on FT and being on the airplane. We arent stupid to say that directly to a passenger on the plane however I would say something in response. Just so you're perfectly clear on this (and I find it rather hilarious you attempt to shift the issue with the post directly above yours for all to see) I could care less who gets in what spot in security, and I have no issue with crew being able to skip the line. If I avoid an airline, it's because of the absolutely revolting attitude displayed by the crew here and seemingly supported by other crew.
Frankly it doesn't matter in the least if it's on FT or in the Air - you work for that company, and you know the people on here are your customers.
What would your supervisor or management think if he were to read that sort of language attributed to you? I doubt he would be happy.
