Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites DANA POINT-HARBOR/DOHENY BEACH is under new management and now Best Western Plus - Marina Shores Hotel.

The change must have happened within the last week or so, since two weeks ago I booked reservations there (which no longer appear in My Reservations and prompted my calling hotel directly).

I've stayed there perhaps 20 times over the last six years and am saddened by the change. It was superior in every way compared the HI Laguna Beach, which IMHO is run down and overpriced (stayed there as recently as last March when Dana Point was full).

Besides this, my reservations just mysteriously disappeared without any notification whatsoever. I'm shocked at the lack of communication in the matter. What would have happened if I'd shown up at the "new" hotel expecting accomodations made with the "old" hotel? This could have been a disaster, thank goodness I discovered it before it was too late. At the very least, I would expect to receive an email cancellation notice to alert me of the situation, and also would have appreciated an offer to assist booking a room at another IHG property at the same rate I had at DP.

For IHG to just leave an unsuspecting customer in the lurch is bad bad bad :td:

Hmm this is unfortunate. We stayed at this HIX when it was on the Points Break list in May which was a great bargain.

A property changing flags does not mean reservations are cancelled.

This has happened to me twice with IHG--I have received notification via e-mail each time.

I had a similar experience with another hotel, except that my first inkling was the large banner hung over the HIX sign when I drove up.

They honored the reservation, playing a "we're both brands right now" card. I called PC and they had no record of the reservation, but manually credited my account with the correct number of points.

No clue why they don't provide hints to the customer in these situations.
