TalkBoard Topics - Motion Passed: Create a Spain/Portugal/Gibraltar Forum

"The TalkBoard recommends to the Community Director the creation of a Spain/Portugal/Gibraltar Foum and relocation of appropriate threads from other forums once created."

This vote will close on August 2nd, 2012, at 7:18pm or after all TalkBoard members have registered their vote, whichever comes first.

Per the TalkBoard Guidelines:

A motion shall pass if at least two-thirds of the yes or no votes cast by TalkBoard members are ‘yes’ and a majority of the total TalkBoard membership votes 'yes.'

The purpose of posting voting topics in the public TalkBoard Topics forum is to solicit member feedback on any motions that are up for a vote and to allow for comments after a vote is made. So while there is already a thread and discussion on this general topic and it is safe to assume that TalkBoard members have reviewed that thread, this thread is about this specific motion.

We do use a poll -- in the private TalkBoard forum. Once the vote is completed there, the results will be reported here by the TB VP.

This is a GREAT idea! A lot of us spend time in Spain, Portugal, and/or Gibraltar and we would love to have a forum for discussing these areas!

Si, sim, and yes! This would be a great idea, although hopefully both governments can stay afloat. Since many other countries have their own forums, and Spain and Portugal have a wide range with the mainlands and all of their outlying islands (Majorca/Minorca, Canaries, Madeira, Azores etc.), this is a great move, and I fully support it.

I'm willing to contribute in the Portugal forum, so I say yes.

Include Andorra?

[Have you seen the other discussion thread in this section about the creation of this proposal? Background: There are sensitivities around the name - or rather, the name coupled with what is then found inside the section. As a result I ran through a list of a options.]

With regard to Andorra, it is on the French/Spanish border - and does NOT posess its own airport. As a result any travel too Andorra would need to be via France or Spain.

As such, I thought people could ask about it in their choice of section, between the existing France Section, OR the newsection OR (especially if they are not sure and/or especially if it was about Andorra itself, in the main Europe section. Their choice.

I fully conceed the bit about it not having its own airport is a bit of 'dodge' on the issue, however the site is called FlyerTalk (not just TravelTalk) and also it does highlight that (being land locked) all travel is via another country - and there is a choice.

Also it usually considers itself to be 'in the Pyrenees' rather talking about the Iberian peninsula.

More than happy to discuss this point, but suggest we do it in the other thread where there is a lot of detail in relation to other options already.

Many of us spent ages getting the cheesy bit of text that used to be in the main Europe section changed to something useful and sensible.

I'd suggest something like: "For discussion of the countries based on the Iberian Peninsula including their territories elsewhere."
[But that is quick, again I suggest we switch to the other thread for detail discussion - especially since it will acquaint others with the detail of the countries involved.]

I think there are some unique aspects about travel in this region (Paradores being one example) that warrant the proposed forum.

That was my fault. When I sent the Community Director a PM to let her know the motion passed, I typed too quickly/had a typo. My bad; not her fault.
