InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - No points

Just stayed at Intercontinental in Mauritius for 3 nights (party of 9) booked through corporate travel agent so fair enough that there are no points with that (although as I have a choice in where I stay I would have thought it was worht offering me something) but have just been told that food and beverage don't accumulate points either.
I'm going to be sending approximately 20 people a year to Mauritius on business (so will be eating in hotel, using internet etc) for about 5-10 days each - but IHG are off my short list now (even though they are very convenient). Complete contrast to the Intercontinental in Muscat where we were given a $25 credit, bonus miles and the manager invited us for a welcome drink where gave me his card so we can discuss rates and options. Presumably the difference is Muscat is a business location whereas Mauritius relies heavily on honeymooners and other package tourists.

You should probably familiarize yourself with the Priority Club program. Outside of the Americas you won't earn anything for food & beverages or other charges. You get flat 2000 base points (+ other bonuses i.e Ambassador accelerator) per stay regardless how many days your stay is or how much money you spend.

And how was the stay? Quite a fuss for a few points.

Plus in fact there's no good reason you shouldn't have received the base points (plus amb accelerator/RA bonus where applicable) just because you booked though a corporate TA. I'm sure many of the people on here do, although not me personally.

stay was OK - hotel had nice setting but service wasn't as good as intercontinental in Muscat where I had stayed a few days previous. Was there on business so didn't get to really use facilities - very much aimed at leisure travellers - internet was very expensive (whereas in Muscat it was free), don't like having to decide a day in advance which restaurant I want to eat in (when none of them are full or even half full), buffet was very sameish (whereas in Muscat there was a different featured chef freshly cooked item each night). Room was very stylish. Not sure about staying there on my own on business surrounded by holiday makers - lots of very happy looking honeymooners having romantic walks- would be lovely for that.

That's what I thought (and what we got in Oman and Dubai) but not in Mauritius - at first I was told the points had gone on someone else's account (because they had my full name on the booking whereas I use a shortened version normally) then I was told I was not eligible.

It depends on the rate - if I book through a TA but pay full flex rates, I always get the points. If the rate is negotiated or discounted, it sometimes falls foul of the 30% discount rule, so often then becomes non-qualifying.

Absolutely. It could be negotiate or bulk rate so no points.

also, the other potential issue, did you pay for the room directly yourself with the hotel?
