There is a benefit for plats to upgrade family members for a very attractive amount of points:
when you travel in Business Class, use your points to upgrade up to three family members from Economy Class to Business Class – upgrades costs 50,000 points per person on long-haul return flights and 10,000 points per person on return flights within Europe
My question is, does the plat member need to be in paid business class (C, D, I, J)? Or is it enough that the plat member is in the service class business (i.e. can he be on an award-class ticket or an upgraded ticket and still make use of the offer)
