InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - when does ra expire?

Does it expire end of the month? I already got my account online downgraded to ambassador yet my card is 7/2012. I never had an issue but ic Tokyo bay is arguing that I am an ambassador in their system yet I got my physical card.

But is the ra status still valid till the end of the month? Or once the computer downgrades you, its official? I was apparently downgraded on the 15th so over 2 weeks before the end of the month.

Again, it's not that simple. AFAIK, the status is attached to your reservation at the time of booking. But I'm sure that Japanese hotels do bother to check your current status in the system before check-in.

In this case you definitely need to appeal to the Ambassador Service Center.

If the membership status online shows as Ambassador, then I would expect the hotel to treat it as Ambassador ; looking at the card, it doesn't seem to state "end jul" so the card doesn't seem to have anything that overrides it

Few years ago I was downgraded about a week before the end of the month.

Expire July 2012 means 31 July 2012, not 1 July 2012.

I cannot understand why the IHG system has stopped showing your RA status prematurely.

My monthly RA email says:


Mr Midnight
Ambassador Status: ROYAL
Ambassador Number: ---------
Ambassador Until: 30APR2013 (Not 1APR2013)

Check your" RA Update" monthly email and show one to the hotel.

I wouldn't use that email as evidence of Royal Ambassador since it actually only shows Royal status as per when the email was sent and then shows a date when Ambassador status expires. There is no dispute that the member is an Ambassador

I would still recommend calling Ambassador Services to get a definitive answer; if they inform the hotel that the member still holds Royal Ambassador status until end of month, not likely to have any further issue with that hotel stay

If Ambassador services state that the member no longer holds Royal Ambassador status, I doubt any email will convince the hotel otherwise

The downgrade happening during the last month of membership rather than the start of the next month is a normal situation rather than an exception

I've a similiar follow-up question: my RA card states "Exp 08/2012" so AFAIK this means at the end of August, correct? At least this has been the case the last two years according to my documents.

Well, to my surprise I was downgraded at 31th July and when I checked in to the IC FRA today, was informed that only the AMB status is showing. Well, luckily did receive the usual upgrade, but of course no Club access or minibar.

Is my understanding regarding expiry wrong? :confused:

Exactly the same situation here with email on upgrade saying status is valid until 30th of September, but my account has been downgraded on September 1st! Yep a full month early.

Bad form when you consider it took almost 7 months to even get the welcome pack and card to me (after many messages). I thought they may have stretched things out a little - but cutting it back by 30 days is ridiculous.

I can tell you from experience in USA that hotels only take notice of current status in their system. On check in at New Orleans last year, RA benefits were refused, even though I had email stating that I was RA, as the 'system' still showed my account as ambassador. The check in agent went as far as turning the computer around to show me what he could see and told me that nothing else mattered. He 'had' to treat me at the status level the computer showed.

A later call to service center got RA benefits extended but it was not a nice way to be treated on new year's eve on our honeymoon. So if you check in with Ambassador showing in your account, expect to be treated as an ambassador member.

Maybe this is why some reports that their new RA card is showing exp. one year and one month after they got awarded/renewed?

Maybe. My new welcome RA email says status till July 31. My Amb card said till Aug 2013. Haven't received the RA card in yet, but I will post back till what month it is valid.

Yes, it's kind of annoying. I did ask ambassador service for a clarification in this regard and just got back the answer that they are sorry for the inconvenience but due to system issues the status will be downgraded earlier than it's due to. Well, okay, this has always been the case, but only about 1-2 weeks before the end of the month and not at the beginning like nowadays, so a whole month earlier!! :td:

Back to the original subject. My 2011/12 RA was valid thru September 2012 although I was downgraded at the end of August. I had words with Ambassador services about this and they moved me back to RA I assumed for the rest of September. I then subsequently received a new RA "Upgrade Pack" with status valid thru October 2013, unfortunately I never received the Plat Downgrade pack :(

Yup. Also when they process the renewal/upgrade you should get a email with when it expires.
My new RA status expires last day of July and my card says August 2013
