Completed a return ticket DXB-(HKG)-SIN, and have travelled one out of 4 segments on another similar ticket (only DXB-HKG), and with only 17k MPC miles, I received the pleasant surprise that I am already a Silver member when I logged into my MPC account.

Thanks! :)

DXB-HKG-SIN-HKG-DXB + DXB-HKG and you got 17k MPC miles?

I imagine you took J not Y then, cos Y won't give you this many miles.

That's absolutely possible.

Although I do congratulate on your status upgrade...^ if you were a QFF member you would be a QF GO (800 status credit) when you finish the second round - I doubt CX would offer you CX GO by then though due to a totally different FF rules.

Darn ... a few years ago I hit 28k but they still wouldn't upgrade me to Silver.

All J segments? CX MPC places heavy priority for those traveling mainly on their premium cabins.

I did a few long-haul SYD in J on both CX and QF, and a mix of J and Y for regional flights around North Asia.

Now I regret not having written to them to try my luck.

if you were a QFF member you would be a QF GO (800 status credit)

Actually now 700 SC to earn and 600 to retain QF Gold / OW Sapp.

With my flying I would only be SL on CX :( They look after QFFs quite well though :)

OP would have earned the below in QFF:

From To Distance QFF SC
DXB HKG 3682 120
HKG SIN 1595 80
SIN HKG 1595 80
HKG DXB 3682 120
DXB HKG 3682 120
Total 14236 600

So only 100SC short of QFF Gold (need 4 x QFF flights also)

J fare gives additional 25% bonus miles.

Regarding 4 QFF flights, if you are keen, take JetStar flight SIN-KUL return x2 on a weekend :) easy!

Not really surprised to be honest. Cx seems to be giving "status" to anyone. My colleague who got DM via Amex now got his DM renewed with only 15k club miles! (I helped him draft a BS letter to MPC to make this happen) to be fair his case he did fly more than 100k on cx metal but put his mile to QF mix of J and Y travels so his revenue to CX is probably more than Y flyer doing 120k.

I also had been granted silver for 20k club miles in past so this is a very common practice. Makes sense, when I had status with cx i gone out of my way to fly CX but now I choose to fly with SQ or ANA where possible so I get real service.

I think CX wants to attract as much rich people to fly with them as they can. Can't blame them for trying in this desperate economical environment. I think they have gone on a new route that many airlines have already gone to: throw away your top tiers in the hope to attract more revenue.

While 3 years ago, I was short BIS 15000 miles short of DM renewal was denied DM renewal. This is part of the resentment that I as a cx loyal customer has...its hard to retain status and keep status while Gold and DM privileges can ba had by simply applying for a Credit Card.
