Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Changing Frequent Flyer account at check in?

Hello,
I have a question I am hoping that someone can help me answer. I am currently Delta gold medallion and MVP gold. I understand that with MVP gold, you are waived ticket change fee. I am thinking of booking a trip with my MVP gold status, in case i have to cancel or change itinerary. However, I am so close to getting to Delta platinum that I would like to credit the flight to my delta skymiles account. Can I change the program at the last minute? will this work? also, what if I got upgraded on my MVP gold status, would i lose upgrade by changing frequent flyer account info?

Can't speak for the upgrade, but it's definitely possible to change the number at the last minute, at least if you booked through AS. I get a free bag as a DL silver but want my miles to go to MP, so I've checked in online (with one bag) and changed the number at an airport kiosk with no problem.

What didn't work, however, was using a DL VDB cert towards a flight on AS metal and then putting my MP number in at the kiosk. I had to get SkyPesos for that flight.
