Travel Products - Best Short Term Medical Travel Insurance - Especially For People on Medicare

My husband and I will be going out of the country in September for about 8 days. We are both on Medicare - which doesn't provide coverage outside the US. Our Medigap policies provide a limited amount of coverage outside the US - but not enough IMO.

Has anyone used - or can anyone recommend - a travel policy that only covers medical and related expenses - like medical evacuation (we don't need any other kind of travel insurance)? I am looking at a company called Atlas Travel (which doesn't seem to have a long list of internet complaints - most people seem to give it a ^). Note that the coverage is pretty inexpensive. My main concern is dealing with a reputable company. Robyn

If the only thing you want is medical evacuation coverage, think about joining Divers Alert Network (http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/membership/individual/), which provides that as a membership benefit. For one fee ($55 for a family, less than the cost of one trip policy) you get a year of coverage.

Thanks for the link. It came up with some plans I hadn't heard of before (there were only 7). Atlas was one of them - and it got pretty high ratings. About the only comment/criticism I have concerning the website is it doesn't note that you can decrease your premium substantially (in our case from about $120 to about $65) by taking a high deductible. For example - I think the minimum deductible is about $250 or $500 with Atlas. Max is about $2500. There's no reason we shouldn't take the highest deductible since we have more overseas coverage than the highest deductible under our Medigap policy.

Note that we want both medical and evacuation coverage - so the policy you mention wouldn't work for us. Thanks for your help, Robyn
