I have a 6 hour layover between two Amtrak overnight trains. Just curious as to how one would book a day rate.

Normally you would call the hotel--or call the elite reservations line--but the hotels most likely to offer day rates tend to be located near major airports, in this case IAD.

Most likely will be at the airport, but you can try this website. I have used it to look things up, never to book.

Thanks.

Thanks. The link was helpful. However as stated before hotels were by Dulles. Nothing by Reagan. The rates were right though.

Hmmm.....every time our company is forced to interact with a politician in DC I feel like that business should be carried out at an hourly-only roadside hotel.

Perhaps this is a market Marriott could pursue given their strength in the DC area.

IAD is 30 miles outside of DC. There are plenty of DCA hotels and literally hundreds in DC proper. Day rates are best found by calling the FD and asking. They are most interested in the exact arrival / departure times because that lets them know where they can sequeeze you in.

I've had success doing this before -it's totally based on occupancy at the 11th hour and the entrepreneurial spirit of the manager.

Any thoughts about whether we might get elite night credits for such stays?

I do recognize that the MR T&C defines a "stay" as "all consecutive nights a Rewards Program Member registers and personally pays and stays at any Rewards Program participating hotel ...." but the spirit of the rule seems to hold up here, i.e., a paid period of time in a participating hotel.
