Mileage Run Discussion - Can someone help me maximize mileage?

Hi everyone,

I'm new on here and I'm trying to figure out how to extract the most mileage out of a trip but I can't figure this out. We want to go ATL or IAD to PEK for the lowest fare while extracting the most miles possible leaving on or around 5 Sept. 2012 for 7 to 10 days. I see I can go via the pacific and would love a stopover in HNL but don't know how to make that work. Any advice would be great!

A quick search on ITA Matrix using the flex month tool shows your cheapest fares will be departing on the 5th or 6th for 9 to 10 days, IAD-ICN-PEK. The two cheapest fares are on UA and KE (Korean Air)—I'd go with Korean personally, as their hard and soft products are vastly superior to UA, even in economy. You can negotiate a nice 18 hour stopover in ICN, giving you an afternoon and night in Seoul. This would net you 15040 miles on Skyteam at a little over 8cpm—not great, but not horrid.

Not many airlines use HNL as a US - Asia stopover location, so you'll probably have to book it as a multi-city. I didn't do more than a quick search, but with the dates you're giving that would add about $500, giving you IAD-LAX-HNL-ICN-PEK-ICN-IAD at 9.8cpm.

Basically, I'd play around with ITA and use its routing codes to insert stopovers and the like and see if you can find something nice that you want.

I had found all the below on Expert Flyer and it looks like I could go through HNL (and a lot of other places) on the way to beef up the miles, but I just don't know how to book it and still get the fare that is listed. I sooooo need a class in this stuff!
