Hertz - spouse no longer able to pick up gold reward rental

several times in the past year i have reserved a car for my wife using my gold points

this is no longer possible

the last time i did this was in may and there was no issue. i made the reservation online and then called and had her name put on the reservation. according to several people i spoke with on the phone today the policy has 'recently' changed and you can no longer do this

i am annoyed

the work-around is to have your spouse create their own gold account (which should be free), transfer points, and then make the reservation. be advised that it takes a couple of days for hertz's archaic computer systems to recognize new gold accounts.

perhaps everyone else in the world knows about this, but i have not seen mention of it here

i find myself constantly wishing that car rental rewards programs were like hotel or air programs, where i can use my points to buy a room or plane ticket for ANYONE.

I first encountered the problem on a reward rental because Hertz uses Promotion Codes (PCs) to redeem rewards.

My gut says your issue is related to the way PCs are processed upon return.

I agree: it is annoying, and Hertz's systems seem archaic.

Yeah, this change in Hertz policy is annoying.

I used to regularly book award reservations and my wife would pick up the car.

I recently transferred several thousand points to my wife's account and she now books her own award reservations
