Hi There,

I have a couple of SQ segments coming up, booked in Economy, (class W). This is for a work trip and booked through our corporate travel agent. Do SQ offer paid upgrades on the day of departure? I know it will be down to space on the day and that could be dangerous. Has anyone had experiences of this?

Yup they do. In fact they can offer you a double upgrade as well should you desire, however you will be VERY disappointed with the prices

The price will be the difference between your fare class and the cheapest available Business class ticket or First Class ticket available.

Thanks for the reply. Do they put the price up sky high as it's on the day or would it be roughly what you would have normally paid?

I honestly don't know, but I think they do price it out as full fare, as I highly doubt you can walk up and buy a discounted flight on Singapore Airlines for a flight leaving in the next 2-3 hours.

I have the same question as the OP. I've got one segment in Y on SQ 11 NRT-SIN. I'd really like to fly in J instead. I'm willing to pay a decent chunk of change. What would be possible when I arrive at NRT, assuming there is space available on the flight? I'm on an interline ticket issued by KE, if that matters.

I once asked how much an upfare to J would be for the NRT-SIN flight and I believe I was quoted a full J/C fare as the price was extremely high. That was at the check-in, about 2 hours before departure.

Basically - if you can do the fare diff upgrade on your ticket before you travel, do it. Cos if there are cheaper alternate fares available, you will get the lower fare. But if you do it at the airport, it will be based on the fare from that city.. and we call can guess ex-NRT to SIN is rather high in full J fare.

To JLA85, W fare is one of the cheapest fares. Chances are you will not be able to pay the difference.. as it will be almost cheaper to just buy a Business Class ticket. SQ does not offer discount upgrades at the airport or anywhere else really..

What is your origin and destination anyway? I can try and see what the options are and what you can expect to pay>

Lets give the OP an example:

W fare, he paid maybe about US$1000 for a r/t, now at the airport if he upgrades he will have to pay maybe about $US4500 o/w. So OP, you will need to cough up a huge amount, if you can I say go for it!!!

SQ charges full fare differential for upgrades. It is usually cheaper to buy a separate first/business class tickets in advance than upgrades as you can usually find discounts that way. The only reason to do a day of departure upgrade is when your company pays for a high Y fare and you cannot expense the upgrade. Yes, the upfare costs are usually several thousands per segment.

I was offered reasonable priced upfares from D and C on a few occasions at the gate. Probably SQ's way of solving overbooking situations.

Still as I don't do F and see little purpose in a seat beyond the J hardware, I never went for it.
