I'm assuming Day 2 is a Sunday, since you're heading to Dose Market. Frontera, Topolombampo, XOCO and Frontera Fresca are closed on Sundays, though Tortas Frontera (at O'Hare) is open if you're flying out that day.

I'm guessing--though you'd have to double check--that you'll be unable to get a Saturday reservation at Topolombampo. Frontera only does limited reservations, it's mainly first come, first serve. I'm not sure what Saturday brunch waits are like, but weekday lunch seating generally has less of a wait than weekday dinner. Saturday lunch might be your best bet. That said, I know that teens aren't always eager to stand in lines. Are you dead set on Frontera or might you be willing to consider some of Chicago's equally fantastic, though slightly less famous restaurants?

Girl and the Goat
Green Zebra (or Spring)
ARUN

are all fabulous choices. In choosing the boat tour, go for the one run by the Architecture Foundation. They actually know what they are talking about. :)

Welcome to Chicago.

Welcome to Chicago.

Spring has been closed for over a year. Space is now occupied by a place called Trenchermen.

Reservations are impossible to get at Girl and the Goat, but I've had multiple reports that if you show up on the early side they have tables available.

Architectural Foundation boat tour is fabulous.

No problem. Bad guys are sleeping at that hour.

Don't waste your time looking into Girl & The Goat. It's awesome, but you're not getting in there at a decent hour until sometime in September.

Dose will make for a great Sunday lunch.

I just searched Opentable for restaurants with Sunday night availability. You might consider:
David Burke's Steakhouse
The Gage
Graham Elliot
Le Colonial
Hub 51
Mercadito (if you skip Frontera)
Mercat a la Plancha
Osteria via Stato
Paris Club
RL
Sayat Nova
Sunda
Sushisamba Rio

I hope you were able to stay refreshed these hot days while on the CTA.

Twice the last week or 2 I was on the Red Line @ app State/Jackson when a vendor (of sorts) entered the train with a very large cooler on a cart he was pulling. Before the train even started moving, he was selling beverages - "waters for $1, soft drinks for 2, and beers for 3"' Sales were pretty good - a few each time I saw him. He probably works at Wrigley Field his days off from the CTA.

Benny's chop house for steak and sitting at the bar. Second City Comedy club if you want a night out for the family.
