Hi, I have about 85k Amex points I need to transfer before August so I can cancel my Reward Gold card before I get hit with a $175 annual fee.

My girlfriend and I are planning to go to Shanghai next year, so I'm hoping to transfer my points to a MR partner airline with the lowest redemption requirement for NYC-PVG economy flights.

We have 49k BA avios pts, but BA requires 50k pts ONE-WAY, so this doesn't seem like a good redemption.

United - at least 65k miles for a roundtrip.

Asia Miles - 60k

Delta - 90k if I remember correctly

ANA - at least 60k for the months we are thinking of traveling (any time between May and September)

Also have no idea how much the taxes and surcharges would be with Asia Miles/ANA. At least United and Delta have pretty low surcharges, from what I remember.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help :)

Don't have any suggestions for you, but wanted to mention that you can use www.milez.biz for a quick check of mileage amounts.

Also, isn't the transfer rate to United 2:1 from Amex?

Krisflyer for premium cabin.

For economy, I dont' think it matters a whole lot. Look for no/minimal fuel surcharge redemptions.

American Express Membership Rewards points cannot be transferred to United Airlines. They can be transferred to three Star Alliance carriers: AC, NH and SQ, and used for travel on any Star Alliance partner, including UA.

NYC to PVG direct - China Eastern (SkyTeam or Delta for you) or United (StarAlliance as MIA pointed out there are 3 options). In the past, Delta has had bonuses for transfers from MR, that can help and I thought economy to China was only 60k RT.
