Last May, I stayed at the Hotel Altstadt. Very nice boutique hotel and gay friendly. It was about 15 min walk to the gay area. The gay area is conveniently located near the huge open air market (Naschmarkt). There are quite a few gay bar choices for all ages and tastes. I always check Patroc.com to check out the scene when going to a major city in Europe. Hope you have a great time in Vienna. It is one of my top places that I've visited.

I'd definitely recommend the Cafe Berg (www.cafe-berg.at). Have been there several times and always enjoyed it. Good place for breakfast or brunch.

My partner and I will be traveling to Vienna soon. Can anyone suggest a gay or gay friendly hotel? We perfer a 4 or 5 start hotel. Also, any suggestions of restaurants and bars (40 and 50's crowd)? Is there a "gayborhood" in Vienna?

Ahhh... Vienna in the summertime is a gay paradise (at least for me) :). I hope I can make it there one more time this summer before it's over. As for the gay neighborhoods in Vienna, there really isn't one. However, most of the gay cafes and bars will be between the Kettenbrückengasse and Pilgramgasse section of Vienna (off of the U4 subway line). There is only one gay danceclub that I know of (located between the Rathaus and Stephansplatz), but one straight club (on Neubaugasse next to Mariahilferstrasse) has a gay night on Fridays or Saturdays. One note: non-smoking ordinances have yet to materialize in Vienna (as in Germany) so if you don't mind smelling like an ashtray after a night out, then you'll be fine. I believe the website for more gay info in Austria is gaynet.at. Have fun!

I second the recommendation for the Aldstat. Have been staying there for years and they really take care of us.
