Middle East - Israel/USA Dual Citizen Transitting Dubai
FTers,
I'm an American-born Israel/USA dual citizen residing in the USA. When travelling, I present only my American passport, except when I'm entering or exiting Israel. The Israelis require both passports, and they stamp both.
I need some help deciding whether it will be okay for me to purchase an itinerary that transits through Dubai. Israel is not on my itinerary.
My layover is several hours, and I won't be leaving the airport. My understanding is that all passengers, including transitting passengers, must pass through passport control. I will present them only with my American passport, but I will be carrying my Israel passport.
What is the worst possible situation if they, for some reason, find out I'm a dual citizen?
Thanks for your help,

I have enquired about this and have heard more than once it is not an issue. I have an Israeli born (and residing) friend use his UK passport to visit there for a week.
Since when as an Israeli citizen with Israeli passport do u have to stamp your USA passport in TLV??
Thanks for your reassurance. Would still like to see if any other folks have had experience with this, particularly anyone who has had a bad experience with this.

It's a whole song and dance that I don't understand...

Also know several dual-citizens who have been through Dubai without issue.
Transit passengers DON'T pass through passport control, unless for some reason their luggage isn't checked through.

I am going to concur that in all my years of commuting NYC TLV I have never once ever brought my US passport out of my pocket when going through Passport Control in TLV.
In fact, I now have the fasttrack swipe card so I don't even bring out my Israeli passport anymore. I swipe the card, place my hand on the glass and get my entry pass.

I hold dual passports - Israeli and Australian
I use my Israeli when entering and exiting Israel - and also for security checks on EL AL in BKK or HKG , which is where I normally board EL AL.
However I have been thru DXB a number of times and flown EK a lot - and just use my Australian passport for those flights.
My Australian passport has never seen the light of day in a Israeli Immigration checkpoint.
Israel has always been good about not stamping a passport if you ask them not to - they just put the stamps on a slip of paper that you can destroy after you leave if you are going to other Mid Eastern countries. This does not help if the Israeli stamps are already there

Perhaps my situation is a little different. Even though we've never lived in Israel, my brother was detained at the airport several years ago for skipping the draft. That was when they had just shifted passport control from a paper system to a computer system, and it was when we found out that we are dual citizens. My passport has extra documentation saying "Don't arrest this guy!" and that's probably why they ask for the American passport.
Thanks for the replies, and I will go ahead and buy the ticket (saves me several hundred dollars going through DXB). Of course still interested in any other flyers' experiences.
