This was our first trip with the Little Bit (2 year old daughter) on a plane. We've read on things, made sure we had toys, plenty of diapers, change of clothes, snacks, drinks, formula, you name it... we got it (and I was schlepping it!).
It started rough on our CLT-PHL flight but she calmed down soon so I hoped she would get used to it for our big PHL-MUC flight. How wrong I was! We boarded the plane first (as my wife has disability so this got our family a pre-board which was very useful). We had all 4 seats in the middle section and I strapped her seat in forward facing and hoping she wouldn't kick the seat in front of her too much. Despite the feeding and making her crawl around, skipping nap and other things to make her tired in order to fall asleep in the plane she was pitching a fit and crying out loud for quite a bit during boarding as well as during weather delay for take-off. We've tried toys, singing, food, bottle etc... nothing seemed to help for more than few seconds. At one point I thought other passengers around would gang up and throw us off the plane, but they were all nice (or at least pretended to be) and I am grateful for their understanding. Finally Little Bit felt asleep and cabin got quiet. She was good for the rest of the flight, just woke up mid way and I gave her some of her airline child food (chicken, corn, and tater tots, as well as ginger snap cookies) and she went back to sleep until it was time to get her out in MUC (where we were the last one off the plane).
I bought her a model A330-300 plane and asked for the crew to sign and some did (some were sleeping and when it was time to land they were too busy and I didn't want to bother them). So now Little Bit has a nice reminder. To top this off, a F/A came towards the end and gave me a flight map that captain gave to Little Bit (has her name on it and his name and flight info) with flight path of PHL-MUC flight. This was just so awesome!
All in all crew was fantastic and very helpful and fellow passengers didn't throw us off the plane so life is good!
Thank you goes to crew of US 708 on 7/15!
