Europe - Suggestions for weekend trips from Bratislava?

I've been to Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Rome. I'm looking for other places to visit in the vicinity for a short weekend trip. Ideally these places would be accessible via a nonstop flight direct from Bratislava (Milan?) or a short bus/train/car ride away. Thoughts?

I used to live in Nitra, which is about an hour's drive from Bratislava. I took RyanAir flights to Frankfurt Hahn about once a month for a weekend away and saw a lot of southwestern Germany. There is a good bus network out of the Frankfurt Hahn airport to many cities in SW Germany and even to Luxembourg (went there too). The flights were convenient, leaving on a Friday after work and returning Sunday evening. They were cheap too - about 35 Euros rt, but that was 3 years ago.

You can also go to Poland - see Krakow.

There are plenty of beautiful towns in the Czech Republic to see. I was just in Plzen and it was lovely.

In 2007, I spent a few days in Brno, Czech Republic and Olomouc, Slovakia. Both cities have good museums, interesting architecture, good food and of course excellent beer.

No need to fly anywhere. I would recommend you drive to Niederösterreich (Lower Austria). One of my favorite parts of Niederösterreich is the Wachau region and the town of Dürnstein.

You can see some of my photos of the region here (http://www.frequentbusinesstraveler.com/2009/09/austrian-wine-country-ii-part/).

Agree about the Wachau region of Austria.

I also recommend Krakow, Poland. Not sure how easy it is to get to from Bratislava, but Krakow is well worth a visit.

Olomouc is still in Czechia...for now... ;)

Cesky Krumlov - nice and compact. We did an evening tour conducted by an American living in CK and he shared wonderful stories of the history/myths surrounding CK.

We also loved meandering through the streets and the medieval restaurants. Our best castle tour was the one of the Baroque Theatre - most more interesting and unique than the other tours.

Yikes. Sorry about moving Olomouc to Slovakia! I am embarrassed since I really liked the city. I decided to go there because a friend (technically the daughter of a friend) spent a semester abroad in Olomouc and liked it so much that I just had to visit. Apologies also to my Czech and Slovak friends.

How about Croatia? The Dalmatian coast is beautiful and half a day by car to Pula. Or take Danube Wings (http://www.danubewings.eu/) to Split.

Maybe a little far, but SErbia is great. Subotica is right on the HU/SR border/rail line...nice city, there's a giant lake/resort a few km from the center. HAve you been to lake balaton?

For a day trip I assume you already went to Devin castle (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devín_Castle) ruins.

Then there's the fast boat to Viena and Budapest IIRC. Or maybe just a boat to Budapest and fast boat to Wien.

And of course Vysoké Tatry (http://www.vysoketatry.org/park/wildlife.html) with many charming villages.
