At a minimum, the room should be free.

I don't think that is necessarily too much to ask for, but I can't imagine getting more than that.

Are you telling us that you do not want to be part of the IHG's save the energy/environment friendly program? :D:D

More seriously, I would not pay a room in such conditions.
Question: was there any light in the lobby?

sorry was typing in the dark should say 2 hrs not 5
light in the foyer, lobby, lifts then when you got out and turned to the room.
what was not good was that no one stopped any of the people coming in to tel them this it was like a normal night:rolleyes:
on steppin out of lift there was no light at all completely dark even up stairs and into room.
door key opened which is weird.
seemed to be one half of the whole hotel.

For me, if it's a cash stay I'd like the night comp. If it's point stay I'd like the points comp.

Please report back when you got your compensation.

Thanks in advance!

I am surprised no one asked the name of the hotel:cool:
Im sure you are all not surprised its the Rome de la ville
and not surprised they said nothing
when we raised the issue

"how are we to know what floors and rooms are out"

hellllo

go and look

they had no torch in the room and with the shutters down we could see to save our life except for our iphone lighting.
when asked do they have emerency lughting they said yes but its not an emergency
no air con on a 35 degree night
and no apology
and then they had the hide to put the mini bar charges on the bill at checkout causing us to hold our limo driver for 15 mins while we argued as to if we were RA or not.

causing us to have to give a huge tip for him to e patient and wait!!which he deserved in 35 degree heat waiting in the car.

that hotel has some really serious management issues
does anyone have the memail of the GM??

I don't but you might want to contact IHG CS using their online form. I did it with IC Hamburg and got my compensation.

I'm very unclear on all of this. This happened when you returned to the hotel, or when you first checked-in? Was the hotel completely without power, or just certain floors of the hotel? I couldn't suggest what type of compensation you would be entitled to without knowing more. If it was the entire hotel, then not much is due back for you I would say. If it was on your floor, and you had just checked-in, then I would have asked for a different room on a floor with power. As a goodwell gesture though, I think the hotel should credit you a few thousand PC points, give you a comped meal/room service, or take some amount off of your bill. But it is Italy, and if it doesn't look like they'll get a tip from you for doing something, customer service tends to take a back-seat I've noticed.

+1 They should comp you points - I always ask for points in terms of compensation because it shows that I'm loyal to that brand.

I know European CS - that's why I suggest OP to go through corporate.

Doors are battery powered... my room has been having battery problems all week. They recharged it just yesterday and now again it is having problems. At least this hotel has power.

There are many blackouts in Rome in summer (it happened to me at CP Saint Peters: no power at all during 20 minutes, and a big mess as many people needed to check-out with no computers/credit cards machines operating).

Have you called reception when you arrived in your room or did you wait until next morning? If so, what did reception tell you? Are you sure staff were aware of the issue?

My hotel (Marriott) was without power for 36+ hours before I left a couple of weeks ago. Got 5,000 points as compensation.

5K is a ultra cheap compensation - 36+ hours without power they should at least comp you 1 night points.

The entire area was without power so it wasn't like it was their fault. I would have gone elsewhere but there were no hotels with power and availability within 80 miles.

I'm wondering if they only comp you 5K because you are a Plat.

They weren't going to give me anything -- I asked on the way out. What would you guys expect to get? I should add that I had to stay over the weekend for work so the rate was very low $99/night.

If I only get 5k (it doesn't matter how much you paid IMO), I'll contact the corporate via the online form, and ask for appropriate points as comp. A lot of FTers like to deal with the hotel directly when things happened. I don't like that because when I'm staying at a hotel my time is precious. I don't want to wait around to chat with the GM for 30 mins to try to get something. I'd like to do it when I finished the trip because I can have time to write a proper complaint.

I would probably ask for half of the points you need for an award night at that hotel - of course you might not get that, and if you don't you might consider not staying there again since they don't appreciate your business, but 5k is too little IMO.

My reason for asking for comp would be that I picked that hotel because of the lounge and since I couldn't use the lounge - regardless of the reason behind it - then I could have stayed somewhere else.

This sounds disturbing. The hotel should compensate you for at least 5,000 PCR pts.
