Virgin Atlantic Flying Club - Expiring VS miles - should I let them lapse?

Haven't flown on VS since 2009. Only flew with them a few times that year and have a few thousand Flying Club miles. I genuinely have no intention of stepping onto SRBs planes ever again and have been converted to the OW family.

In about a month's time those few thousand miles will expire. If you were in my shoes would you bother making any effort to keep those miles alive?

As I do the e-Rewards surveys occasionally, I can either:

1. Get 500 Flying Club miles.
2. Get 750 Avios instead.

Option 1 keeps the few thousand VS miles alive. Option 2 gives me a small boost to the 150k Avio I've amassed this year.

Absolutely no need to let them expire.

Without knowing how many you have it's difficult to propose scenarios where you might find the points useful, but worst case you can tip them into Hilton Honors.

Or if you want to be virtuous, you can give them to a charity.

Let them lapse - a few thousand miles is nothing, you'd need at least 10k to transfer to something like honors points.

My advice would be different if you were likely to fly VS again. I have both a healthy VS and BA balance and choose the one that suits me best, appreciating both the best of each and accommodating the less than satisfactory about each too.

How far away are you from earning a flight?

Tesco is doing a good offer on clubcard conversions to VS and BA miles this month which would keep them alive, if the expiration rules are similar to BA.

If you really genuinely have no intention of flying beardie again, I think you have answered your own question, let them expire and stop worrying about it.

Perhaps better asked in the Flying Club forum?

That said if you really have so few miles in the program and never intend to redeem or collect on VS or its partners ever again then just let them lapse - you have lost nothing.

Hi,

Depending on how many miles you have you may want to keep them.

You need not use them on Virgin but instead on one of their partners ( ie US airways ,air new zealand etc)

A list of the partners can be found here;

Let them die. One less programme to worry about. I am actually happy to see small balances zero out. Stuff like my 423 Marriott miles just annoys me!

Why would you keep them give your statement -

I genuinely have no intention of stepping onto SRBs planes ever again and have been converted to the OW family.

If you did want to keep them though then transfer the minium from e-rewards and that would extend their life for a further 3 years.
