I am not very technical but could someone do up a facebook page protesting the changes to the companion ticket credit card program? Then people could post photos of them cutting up their credit cards etc. I bet this would get media attention if enough people did it. Hey it worked for the Arab Springs...

Yes, losing the ability to buy a companion ticket in first class at a discounted rate is exactly comparable to being ruled by a brutal despot

I'm angry about these changes just like everyone else is, but a Facebook page isn't going to change anything

A $110 RT coach ticket to Mexico is still a bargain.

Rumor has it you can even upgrade to the Signature card from the platinum an still get the 25k mile bonus.

This is just silly. What other airline (of the few that offer this type of perk) allows for FC travel on the second ticket? Get over it and move on with your life.

That is what I did [Classic to Platinum to Signature], and the reason it is possible is because the card is churnable. What they do is rather than "replacing" the Platinum card, they will just open up a second credit card account for the Signature card.

If you prefer only one CC, then just cancel the Platinum card a few months later.

FWIW on a sample LAX-PVR itinerary your $110 RT coach to Mexico suddenly becomes $215 with the taxes.

Add in the annual fee and you've saved approx $150 off of your ticket. Nothing to take lightly, we'd all like an extra $150 but let's not say you're going to Mexico for $110.

Really uncalled for. An airline that markets itself as "North of Expected" and that has always taken pride in being no less than a cut above the others (with prior marketing campaigns like "for the same price, you just get more"), and has obtained our long term business with its product offerings, is now just about in the same exact boat as everyone else. And sometimes, a lesser boat. It has gone from a yacht to a dinghy in relatively short order.

Agreed! Amazing how we now accept diminishing quality of product as the norm.

To answer your question, my best guess is none. And that is the point. AS is morphing into "any other airline".

Get over it and move on with your life.thats what AS is hoping for.....that there are sheep for mediocrity. Sure sure for those in Alaska going to the lower 48 to the east coast or something it may still be an ok bargain but for those based in the lower 48 not planning to travel out of the lower 48 its just as much of a waste of time and money as the DL Gold companion fare...one that Ive NEVER redeemed to date. I will be now when Im in mSN half to most of the year. DL will get the business and AS wont. We drove to ORD to use the F companion fare to be on AS metal. Why bother with that trash anymore. When Im here in MSN....I'll just leave right from here with the DL coach companion fare. Not driving all the way to Ohare to sit in coach that will cost more than DL coach anyhow

Hey, I'm just as sad as everyone to loose the option of FC travel on the companion certificate. But with FC fares at $1500 r/t for one person to Hawaii it looked like FC wasn't really practical, even with the discount. What I meant was 'silly' was the Facebook page.

I doubt it would do much. AS has no incentive to pay attention to it. OTOH, the word is that the AS Facebook wall is "blowing up" with comments about the credit card devaluation (I haven't looked). They do have incentive to pay attention to that, as that affects how they are seen publicly.

I would suggest adding your comments to Alaska's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/alaskaairlines) would be much more productive than setting up another page that only the complainers will look at. Companies need to understand that social media is a two way street. Posting on Alaska's own page (as long as you keep it respectful) will draw more attention than on a protest page only visited by other FlyerTalkers.

You are correct. I had an issue with Sirius/XM where there support wouldn't do anything for me. My issue gets posted on their Facebook page and I get an email from their corporate support team.

AS won't do anything unless it gets out where the world can see how they are no longer "North of Expected".

I'm not holding my breath that Alaska will change this. They seem quite content to wait out the PR storm. However, if they start seeing a huge drop off in the credit card accounts and the miles they can sell to BofA, they might take notice.

Hear hear. Even 3 or 4 years ago AS was a better experience than UA, etc.. But at least United is consistently mediocre. AS has gone from a yacht to a junk, with punitive and hostile policies sprouting up everywhere. Seems like their competition is really Allegiant/ Spirit, and if that's their goal they're doing a great job.
