Does anyone know what "eligible stays" mean at Hilton and Mandarin Oriental? I can't quite find any information about that on the Internet.

I have stayed in a few Hiltons and Mandarin Orientals in the past few months and I have received no miles at all, despite giving them my Marco Polo card at check in each occasion.

I believe that each hotel may have a minimum rate which it considers to be "eligible". The hotel sets the rate, not CX. So you really need to check with the hotels. I had an experience at a certain airport hotel in Hong Kong (I'm looking at you Regal), where after I checked in, I was informed that my rate (walk-in) did not meet the minimum to be "eligible" for any airline miles, not just AsiaMiles.

Most of the times,

bookings made directly at the hotel's website rather than via third party channels.

Those most of the time are eligible stays unless stated otherwise.

I believe most hotel's T&Cs also state what stipulate as an eligible stay.

Hotels have to buy miles from airlines and usually only the most expensive rates qualify. Hilton honours does from time to time have these double dip promotions which means you get both the Hilton points as well as the airline miles;)
