InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - Any better way to sign up for Ambassador?

Looking to sign the wifey up as an Ambassador - am trying to figure out if there is a better/cheaper way than just paying? She doesn't have any PC points right now. Was looking at the 100% Bonus for buying points, but it still comes out to be $200. PC charges to gift/transfer points, so that seems to be out too. If I just have to bite the bullet so be it, but I was wondering if anyone out there had some clever ideas.

Try signing up when you check in for the first stay on her a/c. I remember reading that the hotels are given targets/incentives for Amb sign-ups, and you may be able to negotiate a special upgrade if the hotel is gunning to hit its targets. I don't think you'll get any movement on the price though.

Contact Ambassador Services and ask if you can gift an Ambassador memberhip to your wife using your PC points.

I'm not sure if they will do it but there is no harm in asking.

I did this on a points break stay and got a great upgrade (suite with a private pool + bottle of fizz). Also, the AMB cost can be added to the bill so you'll earn points on that - assuming this is a US stay.

Last August (I think) they did a promotion where if you stayed 3 nights you got Ambassador Status free. Not sure if there would be anything like that coming up again this summer?

They had the 'Stay 3 IC nights and get free Ambassador status' promotion for the previous 3 years. It usually started early in the year. It doesn't appear that they will offer it this year.

But with the Stay 3 Get AMB promo, you'd miss out on the benefits for the three stays - arguably this would be worth $200.
