Hello all,
I am heading to San Diego for a wedding in August and was looking at hotels. It looks like a few of the Hiltons are sold out and others are higher than normal, so I looked for other options.
I was able to book the Wyndham Garden near Sea World at $55 a night, which seems rediculously cheap, though it is my corporate rate so who knows. Looking at the reviews online, the property has mixed reviews. Has anyone personally been to this location and could provide me with a review.
I have no problem paying higher rates for a nicer hotel, but if I remember correctly Wyndham are usually known for average and above hotels.
Thanks for any help!
Best regards,
J

I ended up staying at this property for 1 evening while in San Diego.
While the reviews online left much to be desired for this property, I decided to give it a whirl.
I arrived to the property around 1pm and was informed by the nice front desk manager that my room was not yet ready, and that check-in was at 4 pm. He suggested we visit the swap meet across the street.
Upon return to the hotel around 3:45, I was able to check-in and provided my room key. I was quite surprised when I was informed they needed to put an incidental charge on the account...I don't think I ever pre-paid incidental in the last 5 years of traveling.
Anyway, our building was in the back of the property and was quite quiet. It was a first floor room that I was not happy about with outside entry, but it wasn't the end of the world. The room was in nice shape with a working air conditioner (reviews left much to be desired). The bathroom was extremely large, as we somehow received a handicap accessible room. The hot water tank must be on boiling, as the water was capable of becoming unbearably hot, which is a positive.
Online reviews had complained about parking, but we had no problem returning back to the hotel at 3 am and finding a spot. And, we were informed the hotel was sold out. Maybe we were lucky, as our building seemed to have it's own private parking that was not connected to the rest of the property.
The only negative regarding the property was the statement that my rate did not include breakfast. My rate did include breakfast and had documentation to prove this. The front desk attendant informed me that management informed them that the rate does not include breakfast, but being I had to wait over 2 hours to get my room that he would provide me with the vouchers. A nice gesture, but I was required to receive them anyway.
Overall, I would stay at this property again based on this experience. My final bill was for $61.xx, which included breakfast. I feel this was a fantastic deal and would equate the room to a mid-level Hampton Inn.
