I know we all have our preference when it comes to window versus aisle seats. I've been able to take some really neat photos from the air of variousp places that, for me at least, only a window seat on a plane could offer!
When selecting a seat though, getting a window depends on plane type, if I'll likely have a seat mate, etc.

Boarding may be a mess, the carry-on bags out of control, and your fellow passengers behaving badly. But ah, the thrill of the window seat.
For many people, no matter how annoying flying gets, the view from 35,000 feet still has charms to soothe the traveler’s soul.

More often than not if I "luck out" with a window seat it's over the wing.

When I was a kid, of course I loved the window and didn't understand people that wanted anything else. As an young adult, I didn't really care that much, except for overnight flights where I might want to sleep - then a window seat was nice not so much for the window, but to have the wall to lean against.
These days, on overnight flights, the most important thing is to have a seat with direct aisle access and where no other passenger needs to climb over me to have direct aisle access. This sometimes can be a window seat, if the cabin is 1-2-1 or 1-1-1 seating, or in the middle section of seats if 2-2-2 seating. I could care less about the view out the window, compared to the aisle factor.

That's how it is for most people. You know, photography- light, rectilinear propagation, viewing angle etc, all conspires against every one, not just you.

I select window seats on every flight I take, unless it's on an airline without E+/C/F, or it's a long flight in Y.
Taken some great pics over the years-- This was from LAX-DEN.

I prefer the aisle seat because it's much easier to access the toilet without having to get everyone to stand up, which can be a real pain especially since I use my laptop on flights. But from time to time I do love to sit by the window to catch some lovely photos.
