Miles & More (Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, and other partners) - Economy Award Mileage Upgrade To Biz

Well hello everyone,
I had a pretty quick question to ask. My dad is flying DME-FRA-JFK-FRA-HEL. It was booked as an award ticket flying Y-class until JFK, and then business on the way back. The reason why he couldn't upgrade the DME-FRA-JFK was due to a lack of miles. It also seems I have a spare 23K lying around in my M&M account.
Basically, I wanted to know if there was any way for me to upgrade his DME-JFK leg with my miles, considering he is on an award ticket (X fare)

simple answer: no

2 reasons:

23k miles wouldn't be enough for an TATL upgrade
awards cannot be upgraded

I understand that award tickets arent upgradeable. The thing that I'm thinking is that he bought two one-ways/a multi-city. Looking at his account, it says that he was credited 22.5K and then subtracted 105K(biz class return). Therefore, I'm thinking is there a way for me to chip in 22.5K so he can go all-biz rather than Y/Biz

It looks like they refunded the difference between one-way business (52.5k) and one-way economy (30k) awards. Unfortunately you cannot transfer miles to someone else's account or combine miles from two accounts for an award which is what you are proposing to do. :(

If you have 52.5k miles in your account, you can pay for your dad's one-way business award while he pays for one-way from his account.

Sucks :/ Looks like my dad will have to make what's most of the lower deck.

Any idea if LH will allow me to change his return to fly NYC-IAD-FRA-HEL so he can at least experience truly lie-flat. (IAD-FRA will still be running 748i mid-August right?)
